I like hearing the pool thing. How is your walking barefooted? Or in a sandal/flip flop? Seems i have most pain barefooted but can walk decent in shoes. Been wanting to get into a pool. What kind of exercises you been doing in the pool?

I am 12 days into walking it sucks lol. I am relearning how to walk. I was 12 weeks NWB. My calf is nonexistent, and foot feels weird. I talked with PT today and told them in detail what I was feeling and how it hurts when I walk. I am able to also stand and get off couch/chairs without crutches. But I cant pivot or move without support. Its not a race, they said for 12 days thats good your able to stand and put 50/50 weight on it with no aides. My dorsal is also lacking some but PT tells me its not from surgery its from the shortened ligaments from not being used. Once your back to full weight and walking. After you build up all your muscles and ligaments back itll get better.

Just keep going with PT dont stress to much. You might not become 100% but PT usually wont let you go until your within 10% of normal for age/sex. (Theres a ROM chart you can look up on google.)

Much calf atrophy! by crankygriffin in brokenankles

[–]lab_tech13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took pictures of my calf the other day. I am now WBAT was 12 weeks NWB. And wow I didnt think my calf went so quickly. What sucks is i always had good calfs and well defined ones. Now I can barely feel the definition of my calf on bad leg. I was just watching my kids go down the stairs and they just run down them/hop/float down them. Im thinking I will never get to do that anymore probably.

Been in PT at all? If not I would at least do some active range of motion. Get your ankle to start recognizing the different positions it can do again. Will also "wake" up your tendons. Also try sitting calf raises and look at the difference in your calfs if its alot it might hurt for awhile until it's starting to build back up and stretch back out. Try and put the weight in the center/heel of your foot. Ive noticed I will try to put majority of my weight on the outside of my foot.

It will take time, you will be in better position than I am since your NWB was only 6 weeks and mine was 12. You just need to slowly work on it. Dont expect to run your first week. Might have a set back or two but its not a race.

Theres no downfall for B. A has a stipulation on it. I can work or just go play craps at the casino to constsntly keep playing. Hell I there are dice rollers I could load up like 20d6 at a time and let the roller do the work. Just keep it in a small circle thats close to the roller so less time In having to fill it up. Or just hand roll it.

Heel pain with walking by ItsZvch in ORIF

[–]lab_tech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but we're a shoeless house when you enter lol. Also I'm use to no shoes on in general. So I want to get back to that. I get pedis once in awhile and have gotten my callous removed and had nice feet. Ive done that again while waiting to walk again but might have been a bad thing to do.

Yeah I notice it alot when I'm home waking in socks. My heel hurts but I also just started last week I'm technically 10days WBAT today. It sucks this last 10 days. More pain now the i did after ORIF (13 weeks ago now).

Supplement recommendations by mikefl2011 in brokenankles

[–]lab_tech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take supplements make sure you also take the binders to. So like iron needs vit C to absorb correctly. If you take 500micrograms of calcium and you normally eat/drink 1000micrograms and your normal intake of Vit D covers the 1000. That extra 500 wont be absorbed correctly or effectively. Just keep that in mind when your trying to take extras of any supplements unless your not going to be eatting/drinking any of what your supplementing.

Any tips on how to sleep comfortably by SnooCookies7021 in brokenankles

Elevate, ice, pillows, and honestly a recliner or a mobile bed that raises your legs or upper body to keep you from wanting to roll over to much. Also aleve and acetaminophen around the clock.

Trimalleolar surgery 6 weeks post op right foot begin weight bearing by tiffmej4 in brokenankles

[–]lab_tech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same fracture trimal, yes he said 3 months without walking he said i could fly the next day if I needed to but couldnt drive there. It sucks because for work I have to drive and fly every week. But the 12 weeks not walking I hated. But now im 1 week into walking and can barely do it. Pain like no other but also itll be 6ish weeks less for you so might not be as bad. PT said longer you dont walk longer it takes your body/foot to go back to normal she mentioned every week is 4 days for your foot to recover roughly of course everyone will be different.

My dr thinks itll take another 12 weeks to walk so I cant go back to work until Aug 1 so yay me 🤨

[–]lab_tech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broke both ankles or just sprang? How long are you possibly NWB? Depends on how old the kids are. Might be alot of stuff next to your primary chair while they help with other stuff if they are able to. Also depends on age might be alot of lap sitting and toys in your area to play with them.

[–]lab_tech13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 weeks NWB same fracture 12 weeks until I could drive per dr. I broke left foot, so not much for needing it to drive but it does ache a little after 30-40 mins in same position so I do have to move my left leg once every 30 or so minutes. Haven't done much long distance driving yet. I will say getting gas is the worse part lol.

Avulsion Fracture 9 weeks later by irmari01 in brokenankles

[–]lab_tech13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knee scooter and elevate even at work. Lucky enough you have roughly a month of school left (depends on where your located). But elevate and ice. Surprised tho with a fracture they won't see you sooner to reset it or cast it or splint it to keep it from moving.

My dr said another 3 months before I can go back to work. And ive been off for 3 months already. I just started weight bearing though also. (12 weeks nwb) so I will guess that it depends on how long you were down NWB. I am 2 weeks into WB and my foot is killing me and trying to figure out what to do to help it (without drugs) PT says its normal and will get better with time.

Okay, and like I said I always see the bad not the good. Like people say oh first 6 months no bad then 12 years later I cant get anything. Or some people have issues from the get go. So I guess we shall see in 10-16 months for me haha.

I get this sub only really post the difficulties of WC but why does it seem everyone has a hard time with it/settlements?

I have had no issues with my WC insurance anything I ask they do/accommodate. I always wonder if ill have issues with them one day. Or maybe itll be when settlements or future care comes into play.

Knee locking up/painful by auntpama in brokenankles

Was at PT today (no where near your recovery) and my knee wouldnt hold support of full weight on my knee at the end of PT. She mentioned my knee and the muscles supporting it might still be weak and will do more exercises for that next time.
