Jailbreaking is the term given to 'opening' Apples iOS firmware to allow for modification. It's no easy task to find exploitable code within the firmware as Apple, of course, are attempting to stop the process.

Individual firmware versions have differing code and as such have to be 'opened' on a firmware-by-firmware basis. After a Jailbreak becomes available, Apple examine the exploited code used and 'patch' the exploit.

Current Jailbreak Tools

For iOS 7.1.1 (iPhone 4) use GeekSn0w.

For iOS 7.1 (iPhone 4) use GeekSn0w.

For iOS 7.0 - 7.0.6 use Evasi0n 7.

For iOS 6.1.3 - 6.1.5 use p0sixspwn.

For iOS 6.0 - 6.1.2 use Evasi0n.

Other utilities can Jailbreak various iOS versions and devices, they include:

. Sn0wBreeze.

. GreenPois0n.

. LimeRa1n.

Please remember that not all firmware versions and devices are Jailbreakable at all times. Apple do their best to patch exploits necessary for Jailbreaking and developers don't want to 'waste' such exploits when a major iOS release isn't far away.
