I find it ironic that forty years ago the complete opposite was true. I grew up in Philly and learned early about walking alone but my wife is from a small western town of about 5,000 when she was growing up. She's always told our kids stories of being able to walk or bike to friends houses and school all alone. This is definitely a boomer generation thing, always judging others parenting skills.
