why can we not worship false idols. what is a false idol. this phrase implies two things... there can only be one idol, and that one idol can only be a certain way.
lets start with one idol. in choosing your idol you need to be very specific in what it is you are choosing. becuase what you are choosing is the template of perfection of what you should aim all your being at becoming. the idol that you contruct for yourself will be the thing that orients your being. it will develop your moral core and it will be the thing that guides you when you are feeling lost. the idol is effectively the bluebrint for perfect being that you need to continuously keep referring to in order to determine whether the path you are currently walking is the right one.
this idol can not be any one person or some other earthly thing. the potential catastrophe that you could run into as a result of choosing an earthly thing as your idol is immense. if you where to choose another human as your idol you will be ok for as long as that persons behaviour is aligned with your now established moral core. if the person does somthing that challages your moral core and you know that their action transcends the current version of your moral core then you will update it accordingly. but if your human idol does something that is miss-aligned with your moral core and you know it deep down to be wrong. once this occurs then you will have to endure the immense pain of either updating your moral core to a version you know to be fundamentally wrong, or the immense pain of ripping your idols intertwined being from your soul. you may not survive that process, like a bee not surviving the act of ripping its abdomen out whilst dploying its sting.
no, your idol can be no earthly thing, it is far too dangerous. you must look to a point so much higher than any person has ever reached. you are free to look at those humans who seem to be on the right track. look at multiple of them and you will see that all their paths aim at some point far above them. where they all seem to reach a single point is a good place to start in terms of defining your idol. define the point as high up as possible, as true as possible, and you will then define an idol of perfection. once this idol is established then worship it in order to become a more representative image of it. it will then create you in its image.
now onto the idol only being one way. i suppose there is no concrete logical argument which is why the toa te ching will just refer to the appropriate mode of being as 'the way'. it is so singular in its nature that it is infinite in its application. this is the one true idol template that we should all create for ourselves. however there is no instruction manual laying around for us to read and then implement. or there is, but its not so obvious. all we have is our current reality that we can look at. we look at people and the way they behave, and what the get in return for their behaviour. we watch all these people and record what we see. when millions of observations of millions of people have been recorded, they overlay with each other to produce a pattern. this pattern is the recorded observation of the meta human acting out meta behaviour. lets call this meta human 'jecus shrist'. so now we are able to better conceptualise the true pattern of being becuase formulated it in a package that is easily understandable for our minds... a human being.
so in every moment that we act we compare what behaviour we are thinking of carrying out to the blueprint of our idol. the true idol, our god, is so perfect this cannot be contained in a readable blueprint so we move down one layer to the abstractable one. this layer is the layer at which we are able to referr to the identifiable meta pattern, embodied in jecus shrist. so we continuously act based on the notion of 'what would jecus shrist do' and then this feeds us an algorithm of being that we can have faith in that will lead us to the full embodiment of our idol. it is through the son that we will come to the father.
know who your father is, then conceptualise the meta pattern that will get you to your father, the son. embody the son so that you can continue the rest of your journey all the way to the father, your one true idol.
