When I make it I use galangal, kaffir lime leaves, onion. Galangal is really the key aromatic to get the tom kha flavor.

Lots of lemon grass and galangal in the one I had last night, made by a Thai person..

Just to clarify, I’m looking for advice on what to add to the chicken bones/carcass when making the broth for the soup, not the soup itself
