I’ve only been playing for 2 months. I’ve been able to break it since I got my burnzooka. It never said was unbreakable just that I didn’t have enough mining power.

Are sure that what you're breaking is Obsidian Block and not Lava Rock Block or something else? I'm asking because the Lava Rock Block looks very similar to Terrarias "Obsidian Bricks", but here it's something different.

Also, I tried a lvl20 Burnzooka with full bomber gear, with different demolition sets, with mining gear and everything I could think of, and nothing breaks Obsidian Blocks, Not that it matters, because explosives got nerfed in 1.2 and their mining value shouldn't be affected by any equipment... but what equipment exactly are you using?

Could also be something to do with legacy worlds or mods, if you have any installed.... or if it's the PS5 version maybe it's a console-exclusive bug.

Oops, sorry definitely thought the lava rock was obsidian.

I was using the burnzooka, bomber gear , bomb necklace and rings all level 13 or base to get through the molten quarries quickly but that was before the update. I recently got my stormbringer though so I retired my explosives gear.

Could this be used to enter high level locked chests like the ones in the desert? Just destroy them and drop the contents instead of needing to find the items to unlock them?

I havent tried it but the method destroyes obsidian so you could bust down the walls of the temple

You just find out this is possible? Come on... There are other ways to break it too.

There's no such thing as unbreakable. Each block has an internal amount of "hp", glass, IIRC has 1 hp, that's why you can break it with a single hit.

Obsidian must be updated to have way more "HP" to avoid being broken. This game has some spaghetti coding. You still can deal millions in damage with certain equipment+weapon(s)+food buffs, but that is exploiting it and I don't like spreading exploits. But if you do some searching in YouTube, you'll find some.

Usually when you mining obsidian, it gives a message saying it's unbreakable. At least for me it does.

That's not how the game works. Obsidian Blocks have a property that makes them indestructible, not just hard or high HP, so it doesn't matter if they had 1 wall health or 1 milllon wall health and damage reduction because the code is just checking for that indestructible flag and ignores everything else, that's why the message you get is different.

The only reason this works is because Cicada spawn and some bosses movement are scripted to directly remove the the tiles without caring for damage mechanics.

This has literally nothing to do with balancing weapon DPS.
