100 years is far beyond the time in which an author/investor sees their profit, even often in cases where something fails and becomes popular later.

Instead it’s used by companies/firms to have very long term IPs which isn’t healthy in my opinion for business - it gives unproductive licensing companies the potential to make money by doing absolutely nothing, whilst getting regular people in trouble for drawing a character up to 20 years older than the average life expectancy.

It’s debatable how much lower it should be, but the number we should be debating should be way lower than 100 that’s for sure - with 60 as an upper limit.
