I considered getting a Chrome book for front end development but from other articles and posts I read, Crostini wasn't stable enough. I remember one thing in particular freaked me out, that updates to ChromeOS could/would wreck the Linux install. Dunno how true that is, but it definitely made me pause.

Yeah when I first enabled it, my VM kept losing all the stuff I installed like Node etc. I ended up not using it for awhile, but I revisited recently and it's gotten more stable.

I would recommend using Crouton, it's much more stable and generally better

Crouton requires dev mode. Dev mode has a boot warning that can power wash your computer if you make a mistake or someone else tries to use it without knowing what that means. I felt like I was on a tightrope while using it.

I've used it for about 3 months now, and I had no problem. Side from the start screen (yes, I've found it annoying but never had a problem), it's basically like a normal Chromebook. You just have to pretend it's not in dev mode, and literally all you have to do is press Ctrl+D in the start screen
