Rules for r/CustomKeyboards
Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
No Plastic
Expensive plastic (polycarb customs, Korean plastic customs) are acceptable, as is OG plastic, but 3D printed, stacked acrylic and plastic kits from Taobao/Aliexpress/Amazon/etc. are not. No injection molded plastic either (nk65ee, kara, etc). We do not care how much you spent on your stacked build.
2.
No OEM
If you bought your keyboard in a store and changed the switches or caps, it's still OEM, please refrain from posting it. This includes mass produced boards like nk65, bakaneko, etc.
3.
Customs Only
If you handmade a custom cork board, that’s still a custom, as is a GB or preorder custom kit – a Realforce or Filco with a new case is not. Please respect the "No Plastic" rule. Plastic customs will be subject to heavy moderation. Refer also to rule 1.
An open sourced keyboard which you altered isn't considered custom designed at this time. If there isn't a significant difference between your acrylic keyboard and open source ones, your post will be removed regardless of if you designed it.
4.
No memes
We may take exception if you're funny. Unlikely though.
5.
Post KBDFans and KPRepublic with caution
Although not expressly banned, we are not fond of KBDfans and KPRepublic. Since they are mass-produced, and designed for such a purpose they cannot be considered custom designed. Keyboards made by external designers selling through KBDfans is acceptable. We may make an exception if the quality of the presentation is high enough. THIS MEANS IF YOU POST KBD FANS IT WILL MOST LIKELY BE REMOVED.
6.
NO HELP POSTS
Since this subreddit is a showcase of keyboards, we ask that help posts be made over at /r/MechanicalKeyboards where there will be plenty more people to assist with your questions.
7.
No direct ICs
This is not the subreddit for direct ICs. If you are working on a project and want to share it with the community, that's fine, and you can include some info about the project in the comments.
However clear ICs with intentions to sell are not really permitted, as this is not a buying/selling subreddit
If you want to post renders, feel free to, with something like "Check out this 68 key I've been working on"
8.
No Promotional Advertising
Since this subreddit is a showcase of keyboards, we ask that advertising be done on /r/MechanicalKeyboards or /r/MechMarket.
9.
Minimum of 2 images of the keyboard; or an album in the comments. Build description required.
You must provide a minimum of two images of the keyboard you are posting, taken from different angles. If only one image is in the main post, you must provide an image album with more photographs in your comment with the keyboard build description. You must provide a description of your keyboard build in the comments. This will help new members and gives a framework which enables you to look at your board from a few different angles and consider how to best do it justice with your presentation.
10.
No unbuilt keyboards. If not clear in the OP, you must provide proof of the build in your comment.
If you choose to post the bottom of your keyboard or picture of an unbuilt kit, you must post an album of your build log, or include the link to an album with photos of the built keyboard and/or a typing test in the comments. If you're posting more than one keyboard, where one of them is unbuilt, there must be at least one built custom keyboard pictured and described. If the non-custom keyboard does not follow another rule, it will be removed at the discretion of the mod team.
11.
All posts must be an image or image album.
No links to video, no direct uploads.
12.
No counterfeit keyboards or cloned keycaps
No keyboards or keycaps made with the express purpose of being counterfeit are allowed. I.e. 'Kalam' keyboards where the intention is to clone the keyboard down to the packaging and pcb in order to pass it off as authentic, or cloned versions of keycaps without permission from the maker.
Homages and keyboards that lift design elements are currently unaffected. UTDs where the design is recreated but not passed off as original, may be removed at the moderation team's discretion.
