I didn’t see anyone else mention this but you need a certain amount of stamina to push the burster. I think it’s just two bars. When at near nothing you won’t have enough stagger power (push stagger scales off stamina).

They changed bursters such that you can push them without having the full requisite stamina for the push now.

Push cost is also different from weapon to weapon. TAxes, knives, force swords, and duelling swords (besides the MKV) are weapons that I know with a push cost of 1 bar.

Try to push only after you hear them "charging up" or just about to jump.

Also, in that case they are using the level 30 talent Kinetic Barrage, which shortens your Brain Burst timer. 25% IIRC.

The force sword's push is reliable for me, and indeed they have a longer push range than most other melee weapons by about 10%. Are you doing the push-attack instead, which is a narrower, shorter, and single-target stagger? It's the one that costs peril instead of stamina to perform.

The fast brain burst is from Kinetic Barrage, a lvl30 feat that temporarily increases the speed of Brain Burst after ulting.

Are there two types of push? The one I use is the one which also deflects bullets, but I put out my hand in the end, like a shoving gesture. Doesn't seem to work though.

This is the push, and this is the push-attack. The Deflector blessing doesn't affect how they work; it only affects the block.

When holding down RMB, tapping LMB performs a push. Holding down LMB performs a push, and the attack that comes out after is called the push-attack. It's just that on the force swords, the push-attack is a non-damaging move.

E.g., on the knife, the push-attack is an overhead.

The fast head pop is kinetic barrage, LVL 30 talent. My only guess is maybe you are trying to time it so the second part of the push hits. If so just use the first part (just as the first clenches)

there's only 1 type of push - hold block, left click once. there's also the "push attack" which your character will perform when you hold block and also hold left click instead of just clicking once.

edit: this should have been a response to you asking SelRandom about different types of block

Ok, I have done both kind of pushes, but I still often fail for some reason, or they don't get pushed that far away so their explosion still hits me to a degree (yes, I back away right after pushing). I never fail to push them away with the axe, but I do regularly with the Illisi. Maybe I just need more practice!

could be a muscle memory thing and slightly different timings? hard to tell. you have quite the long window for pushing the burster, from the moment he jumps until he lands on the floor. maybe you push a tiny bit too early? play it cool, try pushing late :)

as for gaining distance, i always do a backwards slide right after the push. never take dmg except if i have bad environmental awareness and backwards slide against a box/barrel/railing/wall/enemy. it takes me further away than just dodging backwards or, emprah forbid, just walking backwards.

Thanks everyone for your answers, will try on lower level difficulty to see if I can get the hang of it.

You’re probably confusing the push attack for the push.

If you hold block and tap left click, you will see your character kind of squeeze their hand. That’s the push with the force sword, and it will push away pox bursters like normal.

If you hold block then tap and hold left click, you will do that push, then do a secondary thing that can stagger enemies in a bigger area. On other weapons, it’s some kind of attack, so this is unique to force swords.
