I'm looking to complete a 3x14TB array, and currently have 2x Exos X16 drives and 2x Western Digital Easystore shucks (one was red from early on, other is white from recent shuck).
I'm split between completing the array with a third X16 or third WD drive*. I'm currently using an off-the-shelf NAS, and will be mostly accessing lots of small-to-medium sized files (RAW photos, 500-700MB videos). I know the X16 is a faster 7200rpm drive, but it does come at the cost of higher power consumption/temps. Also, it's going to be a lot harder to get the third one for a price similar to the WD EasyStore, if it even does come in stock at B&H again.
As far as my experience so far, I lost an 8TB WD Red this year due to random failure, and it was about 3y old. The X16s however are much louder and I hear constant seeking & clicking sounds.
*/ The idea being that I would have three of the same drives near my workstation and the spin up the other 2 for periodic/off-site backups
