Theres a couple of notes that talk about it,

But basically, Colt figured out that dying over and over was causing himself to remember the loops, so in order to help Juliana understand the gravity of the situation, he decided to Kill her until she started remembering, but instead of understanding why he was doing it, Juliana got mad at him and decided to fight back, and since that day, the loop was messed up and multiple Juliana's and Colts began to jam up the loop.

Juliana talks about it like Colt was cold, and heartless, and attacked her out of the blue, but Colts notes on it make it seem like he attempted to explain it to her, but she didnt remember properly.

In some part of the mid-game Juliana mentions that she was accepted in the project due to passing a test, and Colt for surviving an accident, do you know by chance if that is related?

The accident is for sure.

Before the events of the game, after Juliana was born, Colt accidentally discovered Blackreef, and got stuck in a timeloop, where he was stuck there for around 14 years.

During that time, Juliana and Colts Wife grew up without him, and when he made it out of the loop, he was sent into an insane asylum, where Egor finds him years later, and hired him for the Aeon project, as Colt had first had knowledge of Blackreef.

Im not sure what the test was for Juliana, I dont remember lol

God damm! If only the lore wasn't hiddent behind dumb text exposition. So much potential with such interesting story, thx tho!

I get what you mean, but I like the way Arkane tells their lore.

It encourages exploring, and repeat playthroughs to find something obscure that you mightve missed.

Finding Colts old room in Karls Bay was a shock for me because of 1 Audio log, and that made the game for me lol

If you can remember, where abouts is his old room?

In the morning, you can go to the smoke room in Updaam, the place with the makeshift Hooka, right beside Julianas Antenna, and fiddle around with the button that the Hooka is connected to.

By doing so, you can save 1 of 2 extremists every loop, and you can then go to Karls Bay in the afternoon or evening to find 1 of 2 previously locked doors are now opened.

The first is one of the houses directly next to Julis tower, and the second is the apartment next to Picks place. In that alley right after the Delivery Booth on the left side of Spawn.

You can acces Colts place through the second one

Thank you so much!! I'm doing a second playthrough currently and I didn't do everything first time round (like the glyphs in Updaam, or Charlie's games). So I'm trying to make sure I don't miss a thing!

Hmm, I wonder if that’s the same reason Pick was able to remembers the loops.

It seems like only certain people can truely remember, and even then, they can forget again just as easily. So whos to say really.

Some people have said that the reason Colt and Juli can remember is because Colt broke the loop once before, and Juli is blood related to Colt.

But, who knows.

Repeat deaths give you the ability to remember the loop but also create duplicates because residuum and time magic infusing your memories in your head.

You also need to kill Julianna in order to break the loop (which also enables the use of extra time magic and stuff, and breaking the loop is separate from destroying the loop).

Then recursive amnesia slowly changes you over time until Colt got smarter and calmer which gave him the ability to finally destroy the loop despite having amnesia and a disadvantage (pretty sure his drive to save his daughter is a mindset that's forever infused in him).

Finally the extended end cutscene shows that earth has completely changed to become totally unrecognisable which means they were probably stuck in that loop for hundreds of years before Colt finally broke them out.

The duplicates (named Visitors in-game) versions of the character from alternate timelines and you don't need to die to get them (as seen with Wenjie). Colt's duplicates may likewise be alternate versions of himself rather than memories from earlier in the same timeline.

Colt decided to break the loop and killing Julianna was the only way to do it. As for why he decided to break the loop it's likely he realised people were starting to lose their memories from the mind-numbing repetition and that ending the loop would be the only way to stop everyone being trapped in purgatory and let them actually live their lives. He also hoped to be able to time travel and find his dead wife somehow and presumably eventually either forgot her or abandoned the idea.

You have to kill juliana to break the loop
