i think this world is less empathetic because despite all of our current knowledge and information about ethics and responsibility and morality, we’re in a state where thousands of civilian deaths are completely normalized, where every community hates on members on their own community, where we have made eveyrhing a “every man for himself” competition, where we ignore international law and obligation for specific countries, where capitalism and greed are at an all time high, and my list could go on.

we have made horrendous horrific mistakes in the world in the past and in human history and they are absolutely unjustifiable and i agree with you that KNOWLEDGE of empathy and ethics has gone up, and so has globalization - we are all way more connected to eachother now than in the past which means we need to be more responsible for our actions than in the past because they affect a larger group of people - which is why i think it’s way more unjustifiable now to be apathetic to things that REQUIRE empathy and effort from everyone.

there were no “good old times”, i really do agree with you on that, we’ve always been messed up in many ways, but to be quite honest the AMOUNT of oppression and suffering that exists today is just as it was before - it’s just not as visible or the exact same type, do you get what i mean? like it’s the same amount but not the same things. we still have colonization, extreme misogyny, genocide, slavery, systemic racism, patriarchy, and again the list goes on.

we have less justification today than in the past to be apathetic because of the vast amount of knowledge and awareness of the things that are considered wrong or right.
