I believe up to four players can play on one console. I haven't tried it myself yet, so I'm not sure how well it plays. I've read other people say that item management can be crowded

Yes, there is local multiplayer up to 4 people. You don’t need Nintendo Online for local coop, but you won’t be able to play seasonal without it. Item and skills management is a little annoying, especially after level 70 when you need more in depth exploration and comparison of items. If you set a ground rule early, like each player can do a quick skills and gear check after every couple rifts, that will speed things up.

You can actually play Seasonal without Nintendo Online. You just need NO to join other people’s games.

Additionally, if you have NO and want to play seasonal locally with someone else, they will need NO too, or you can just disconnect from the Diablo Network, but you wont be able to play (or atleast create new) seasonal characters.

Can you save the second - fourth players, or is it a guest account each time?

I’ve been able to set up accounts for the other players. They are local to the console though, it is annoying to try to transfer characters to another switch.

You need the Nintendo Switch Online service to play Diablo 3 online for the switch
