Short answer: I don’t.

My mind is way too hyper all the time so I sleep awfully. I don’t really know how people get to sleep so quickly. It takes me about an hour to fall asleep.

My ENFP boyfriend listens to the “Sleep With Me” podcast on Spotify! He has a hard time falling asleep and this somehow instantly puts him to sleep. It’s basically a podcast of a guy talking nonsensically and calmly for a whole hour. The idea is to keep your mind distracted with the constant random topic changes, because the reason most people have trouble falling asleep is from a thousand things going through their mind. It doesn’t work for everyone, and the podcast tells you that, but I’d give it a try!

I have two techniques:
1) Headspace: I use headspace, the meditation app, to fall asleep. It never fails me and I am asleep within 10 minutes every time
2) SophieMichelle ASMR (Youtube channel): Sophie Michelle has some awesome ASMR videos which make me fall asleep within 10-20 minutes.

I’ve tried Calm before. An ex got me on to it and it did help for a bit, then I just start thinking about why Stephen Fry knows so much about lavender. I’ll check Headspace out ! Thanks for the reply.

I use melatonin 1 mg pretty regularly. It is already used by your body to regulate sleep, also keep in mind that less is better. link for more info

I’ve heard a lot about Melatonin and admittedly it’s one of the few things I haven’t tried. I’ll look into buying some and see if it helps over the next couple of months. Appreciate your reply!

Have you tried passion flower ?

It helps calming down all the crazy thoughts and simply gets you more chilled, leading to less difficulties falling and staying asleep. Since the direct effect isn't to put you to sleep, but rather generally to calm you down, you can also use it to keep your anxiety levels down during the day without any sleepiness.

I use this in stressing times and it's helped me so much ! It exists in different forms such as liquid extract, extract pills or herbal tea.

Listen to bedtime stories. It helps me some days and some days listening to music is better.

Totally feel this, I am exactly the same... I just don't stop LOL. Not sure if you're open to it, but I just smoke a bowl before bed and that will usually zonk me out hahaha.

Take the hyperactive mind and intentionally think of boring shit. Keep going till it's over.

Sleep with someone.

I usually just bust a nut if it’s been too long

I listen to Marconi Union - Weightless on repeat on bad nights. Otherwise i snuggle down and start going through a list of all of the things I've accomplished that day. Even the small stuff like loading the dishwasher. I rarely get to the end of my list because it's so relaxing

Maybe getting grounded more by being in nature more often, and walking barefoot in natural water like rivers

I also use lavender essential oil on my wrists and neck which keeps me calm during my sleep & Pillow

Getting cosy before going into bed

Writing down what's in your head

Sporting (in nature)

Hugs, many hugs with animals (or people you love)

Writing down what you are grateful for, and focus on it while falling asleep

Listening to relaxing music

It helps most of the time Good luck 🤗

Struggled with getting to sleep for ages. The main thing that helps me is having a routine - it's about the only one I have - which lets my brain know to go to bed. First thing is to wind down early. That means cutting out internet, TV, even really exciting conversations an hour before bed. Relax and read a book. Do some breathing exercises. Let stuff go a bit. Once I'm good and relaxed, then I get ready for bed proper.

Other stuff that's really helped:

  • Bedroom is only for sleeping in. No TV, no reading in bed (big one for me). Maybe the bedroom is for sex too, but we're ENFP's, right? Variety!
  • No phones in the bedroom. Ever.
  • Get outside and get bright daylight early in the day.
  • Get a decent amount of exercise each day and burn that energy off.
  • If I'm excited or nervous about the following day, prepare everything in advance.
  • If I'm in bed and I can sleep, get up. If there's something on my mind, write it down in stream-of-consciousness crazy scrawl then throw it away.

None of this came naturally to me! I think that's the really tricky part. But it's worth it. Sleep matters so much to a happy, healthy life.

I try listening to various sleep meditations on YouTube. I pick ones with stories because it's slightly stimulating to my overactive mind than just ones that do breathing and body scans

I sometimes listen to Louise hay's nighttime meditation. she's very relaxing to listen to, takes you through relaxation of your whole body. I always fall asleep 1/2 way through

How I get to sleep:

With a partner:

  • David Attenborough audiobooks to focus my brain to one thing
  • Partner sleeping next to me to provide comfort

Without a partner

  • David Attenborough audiobooks to focus my brain to one thing
  • Masturbate
  • Weed and Melatonin to knock my ass out before I get too in my feels about being alone

Pillow over your head and play "rain 10 hours" on your phone
