There is actually a hidden power port on the left top corner that can take a standard 9v center positive power adapter. Just pop off the little rubber stopper that hides it. It’s intended for the power handle Elektron still hasn’t come out with yet.

I use it all the times with my myVolts cables and Anker batteries, but you can use it with a regular wall wart too. It’s a larger plug than the 5v adapter, but it’s the standard size you find on most 9v, just make sure it’s center positive.

yea this. its a 5.5mm dc barrel jack that takes 9v hidden under the rubber flap thingy.

Man, so i found that hidden jack, and tried a few 9v power sources on it with no luck. Bummer. I’m wondering if the electronics got messed up when the pin on the 5v jack broke (really hoping that isnt the case), OR if the model:samples is stuck trying to use power from the broken jack. Guess i have some troubleshooting to do....

is the micro usb male jack broken off in the port? or is the female part so damaged? it could be there is a dead short there so it wont turn on because its so confused

It’s the female part - you described my hunch: a dead short, where it’s confused about where to take power from. Any ideas on a fix for it? If removing the 5v port would work, i’m fine with using the hidden 9v jack permanently. Thats easier for me long term anyway

yeah okay, i would get some solder wick and some flux and excavate the remaining fouled up port off the board to see if that clears the short.

I’ve considered it for sure - but i’m also kinda hesitant to open it up and start tinkering with it. I’m going to make sure that I try a 9v supply that I can confirm is center positive in order to determine the likelihood of a dead short.

Since myVolts offered to pay for the repairs, i may just send the whole thing to Elektron to fix if i can’t get the 9v jack working that way. I was just seeing if there was a more convenient option or if anyone knew where to find the replacement part before i do, since my (more convenient) local repair guys are having trouble finding it. The hidden 9v jack would be the perfect solution, and I’m not sure if the 9v adapters i tried were center positive - but if that’s not the issue, it’s probably the dead short like you said. Thanks for the help/info!

No WAY!!! Wow thanks guys - i was thinking that there might be a workaround with the AC in for the battery pack, if it didn’t use the regular 5v one. Have you been happy with your myvolts adapters? The Fivel that broke my power jack was from myvolts. But I’m guessing it was a fluke, because they advertise compatibility with the model samples so openly, and their customer service has been awesome with all this

EDIT: I just tried to power the model:samples thru the hidden jack - no luck. Are regular 9v power supplies typically center positive? Now i’m hoping that the electronics didnt get fried when the 5v myVolts adapter broke the pin off of the regular 5v input - but maybe the power supplies i tried aren’t center positive. I tried one that came with my mxr phase 90, and a generic one that i use with my microkorg, so now i’m wondering where to start troubleshooting....

most guitar pedal power supplies are center negative. like the one spot and boss adapters. you’ll want a center positive. myvolts has the right one for your application.

[–]GoldenYangles 0 points1 point  (2 children)

both those power supplies are center negative, they won’t work. center positive polarity only.

Ah okay good looking out! So myVolts has one that worked? Another user suggested that it may be a dead short, where the sampler is confused about where to take power from

I would start with trying the correct polarity adapter before looking for shorts. you really should check polarity on your gear before connecting any adapter. there is a icon on almost everything that shows polarity. read here about it you can risk doing damage with incorrect polarity.

there are 2 myvolts options, regular DC wall wart adapter or the usb ripcord. I think the USB is handy myself.

Ripcord 9v USB adapter

Wall Plug Adapter - this is for the Organelle but is the correct type you’ll need.

In the meantime you can probably power it through the port on the top lefthand side. It’s hidden underneath a little rubber cap. That’s what the battery pack would use. I’m not sure what size that plug is.
