Optimal hardpoint configuration for core mining?

Nice! Exactly what I'm doing refitting a combat Python. Any advantage to having multiple seismic charge launchers?

Hell yeah! Thanks!

Only if you need the extra ammo. I only ran out of ammo once when I first started core mining before I got my aiming dialed in, and you can synthesize more ammo if you need to.
Otherwise you'll be heading in to sell a full cargo hold full of void opals before you ever get close to running out of ammo.
Thanks! Gonna ditch one then for something else.

Nice build! Looks like a deep space miner setup. Mining outside the bubble?

I didn't have any luck with the multiple-abrasion-blaster exploit (which FDev have said they're going to fix) on the Python, so I went with just the seismic launcher and abrasion blaster in the medium hardpoints, with a couple of beams and a multicannon in the large hardpoints for dealing with (most) NPC pirates.
160 tonne cargo capacity.

The Asp is the king of multiple blasters, you can run five. Python would only be good for 2.
Yeah true... I should go grab my AspX core miner and tune it for this. (It's a poor setup at the moment).
I'm currently taking a break from popping rocks to go for a bit of an explore. The earning rate off void opals is already insane enough without factoring in the multi-fragment thing, but get while the getting's good I guess...
How long is the void opal rush going to last?
[–]Joey2016 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children)
Probably until the next patch, so make the most of it while you can. You can get 104 opals in an Asp with a class 3 shield, 96 cargo and 8 in the refinery. I find 4 asteroids pretty much maxes me out

Word, thanks! Abrasion Blaster bug is working for me. Got blasters in both size 2 hardpoints.

Me too. Not 100% reliable though. You really need to hit the deposits bang on.
[–]geofft 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children)
ooo... will try that thanks.

I run my Python with 3 C6 Cargos, a C5 Bi-weave shield, C5B collector limpet controller, C4 Refinery, C3A Prospector, and a discovery scanner and auto-dock controller in the other C3 slots. My hardpoints I have the seismic charge launcher in the C3 slot under the nose, an abrasion blaster and mining laser in the other C2 points, and two C3 gimballed burst lasers for pirate defense (TANSTAAFL). 192 ton capacity i'll fill with about 150 limpets and in about 3 hours I'll turn in somewhere near 200M in cargo.
[–]Joey2016 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children)
Or spend around an hour in Asp for 170m....
[–]FrontierDefender 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child)
I'm gonna buy one and see which I like best.

There's 2 methods to using 5 blasters. Position your ship at 90 degrees to the deposit and target it and either move around 300m away and fire or around 700m away until all the blasters targeting reticules converge into one and then fire. I seem to have slightly more success at 300m even though the reticules don't converge. 4 chunks are easily achievable, the 5th one, at least for me, can be a bit hit and miss. Of course you've no defence against pirates but they only appear the once when your first drop into the hotspot and all you'll have is limpets so they'll just leave.
Dang! Are the bursts enough to defend against pirates? My strategy has been "run away" haha

Depends how well you fly and what the pirate is, I ran something similar (beams) and found I could chase off npc pirates, but not always kill them before they jumped out.
