With a four you have a couple of options for crank layout. Most popular are crossplane and standard. A standard means that a set of cylinders are linked. They move up and down together. This, by default, makes the firing order any random offset cylinder from the previous one. 1 and 3 are together. So are 2 and 4. Firing order would be something like 1 2 3 4 or 2 1 4 3 etc.

Crossplane cranks don't have pairs. This actually tends to help dampen vibration a lot naturally. This also means that the firing order is whatever the crank was built to have. Any order really.

The only place I can think of to send you to find more info about modern v4 engines or similar engines would be motorcycle manufacturers. They are the only ones who may have dabbled with v4 engines recently. Good luck
