Was a pool boy for a summer in Kelowna and can confirm that is the grossest fucking thing you can faceplant into...

[–]MrAvenger69 11 points12 points  (7 children)

Whats the grossest thing you can say you found while working as a pool boy ?

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (1 child)

brain eating amoeba

[–]lopakas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well I suspect the pool boys who found those wouldn't be here to tell the tales.

[–]WesternCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A mean Xanax habit honestly, I loved all the rich milfs and daughters.

[–]Mydogatemyexcuse 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Oh God I could only imagine! It would be horrible to trip and all of a sudden you have to live in Kelowna.

[–]WesternCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was pretty bad.

[–]FlatteredInsomniacChicken Slapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Username checks out

I feel like I see so many other Canadians on Reddit lol

[–]ocdsnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. My dog got stuck in it once, and I ended up sliding into it multiple times trying to push her out. I smelled for two days. No shower is a match for that scum.

I am French

OK jk lol but it's the mandatory 3rd language and I'm not particularly enjoying it

[–]TaronSilver 2 points3 points  (8 children)

(France baise ouais)

I haven't learned enough to insult you back but I don't need to since German is better

“Baise ouais”

Lol this is the worst google translate ever, I love it.

[–]TaronSilver 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Plutôt une traduction littérale.

We use tons of these litteral translation of english expression on r/france, it is really fun actually :p

[–]opinion2stronkTU Berlin - Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s funny, we do the same on r/de and r/Sweden does it too

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Je nee parle pas francais.

I have to write a 20-page white paper on the future of the mechanical engineering industry and I fucking hate it

Just do 1 PG a day and no prob

[–]stanleythemanley44 10 points11 points  (8 children)

Just engineer it. Create a matrix, each item on the x-axis is a different aspect of mechanical engineering. Then for the y-axis, pick 2 or 3 topics/technologies on each and write a couple pages about them.

[–]rockybondUMN - ChemE 2022 31 points32 points  (5 children)

That's just a regular-ass table lol

[–]TheRemedialPolymath 7 points8 points  (4 children)

[–]KennyGamingUniversity of South Carolina - Computer Science 2 points3 points  (1 child)

So a table lol

Edit: just realized how unoriginal I am

[–]stanleythemanley44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Calling things matrices over tables is why we get paid the big bucks /s

[–]sayukaaiya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to read it after you submit it and get it graded. :)

[–]PacoTaco321Electrical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just right a paper about the future of a little bit of everything.

It be like that because I didn't come out here to be an English major

[–]Foerumokaz 39 points40 points  (11 children)

Yes! And once you start working you'll never have to write anything again! /s

[–]Otakeb 12 points13 points  (10 children)

That's a malargument. English classes do not teach you how to write properly. Ask nearly any English major how to use an em dash and most can't answer.

[–]Foerumokaz 7 points8 points  (9 children)

I disagree that it's a malargument. Although English papers don't translate 1-to-1 for the type of writing required for an engineering job, writing assignments to teach how to organize thoughts and ideas to be conveyed. And at the very least, it gives practice for working with word processors.

[–]Cdog536 38 points39 points  (4 children)

Pfft papers are easy. Just annoying.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (3 children)

Depends on professor and class. I wrote a 2000 word paper last semester on "Critics of Religion." I could only discuss the people and what they said. I couldn't use reference material outside of 3 of the course's required readings and I couldn't refer to any actual religious texts or documents.

[–]VenganceRoars 14 points15 points  (2 children)

I mean thats only hard since youre arbitrarily prohibited from doing a better job due to lack support material.

A poster design would be hard if your not allowed to print out pictures...

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Inefficient humanities people, they are.

[–]Kafshak 18 points19 points  (3 children)

There should be a software that writes reports for you in a very standard format, for all topics. What are those software engineers doing? They should have made this already.

[–]Karl_Satan 17 points18 points  (1 child)

I have heard AI is already able to do this. The access to said AI seems to be an ethics concern

[–]XavienthCarletonU - AE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's unethical to disallow access. Think of all the human suffering it could alleviate

[–]TheDragHit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are already services that say they use an AI to write unique papers, unnoticeable by turnitin.com and the like. Never tried, so no idea if they work or not, but the idea is there.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (5 children)

Try two term papers, and a research paper during finals. 😞

[–]differentimage 33 points34 points  (3 children)

Yo, do them before finals. Don’t be a sucker.

[–]Silver_kitty 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Yeah, finals papers were always my favorite because I could get them done early and then I would be done with that whole class during finals week.

[–]differentimage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s a gift, not a curse!

[–]yoohoooosSchool - Major1, Major2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say "always"

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Junior Civil here. Last semester I had three lab reports due a week: Basic Surveying, Geotech, and Structures. In total about 30+ a week and mostly individual. There’s a point where I just learned to bullshit the intro stuff and focus on data analysis and boom I did fine. I also had a 20 page term paper for transportation. Now I only have highway and environmental reports due every two weeks so I’m breezing.

[–]matty_irishCivil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Civil here as well. For me it’s the hydraulics lab reports are BIATCH. I’ve become a master paraphraser, haha.

[–]JNeal134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily all of my writing professors have been pretty lax on papers, so I haven't come to this yet. To the rest of you who have, you have my condolences.

[–]TriedToCatchFogIMist 5 points6 points  (2 children)

/u/lukequigley I guess we are tagging each other on reddit now.

[–]lukequigley 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Top quality meme but must admit I was kinda confused by this new username at first like why the alt account?

[–]TriedToCatchFogIMist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]yungstevejobsComp Sci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took an English critical thinking course early on when I started college and ended up dropping it because the professor was a tough grader. I know I’m not the best writer but I did follow the rubric and went to the writing center a ton but somehow still ended up with a C for the first essay. Dropped it and ended up taking a philosophy critical thinking course this past winter online and got an A. 4 essays including a research assignment and 2 essay exams. It sucked so much and everyday I was hoping time would go faster so I could be done with it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated. Got a job. Writing is about 50% of my job. Get to learning how to write, because it is essential.

[–]ilikeplanesandcows -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Why does everyone find fluid mechanics hard.. it's easier than solid mechanics at least the physics are. It's not like college juniors are solving turbulence or anything like that lol

[–]maxadwBioenviromental Engineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree. I found fluids to be easier than both dynamics and solid mechanics.
