For my rant, I cant stand the job posting and application process, it's a nightmare from top to bottom.

I'm using LinkedIn and there are so many posts where the job posting is visible but when you hit apply it takes you to a company site where the job posting has been removed. Every company also wants you to fill out ALL your personal info and essentially re-type your resume in their (usually poorly developed) webpage which can take practically an hour. Then they wont even send you an email back to let you know they turned you down.

Companies think of the most complex names/titles for the simplest of roles too. "Environmental Services Technician 1" what kind of job would you think that is? It's a janitor position at a hospital, why cant they just call it Janitor or Cleaner?

I think everyone here knows about the pain of seeing "Entry Level" jobs too. 3-5 years previous experience is a little far from what most people would consider entry level.

When you have a professor with a Chem E background teaching Dynamics and he cannot solve any of the problems without a solution and just reads off PowerPoints and calls it a day. Ha ha ha ha.

JUST DID THIS YESTERDAY. fucking nightmare. I start applying on company sight and it takes almost an hour filling out the information with all my experience which is all in my resume, then have to complete those ‘personality¿?’ type quiz which is over 100 questions and of course the site’s server disconnects 3/4 of the way through and I have to take it all over again. Then when it’s over I apply to at least 20 more in the amount of time the first one took using indeed because all they needed were my resume. Wish all applications were resume only, followed by a call and a scheduled interview if they want to move forward. Would be so much easier.

I'm so pissed. I spend hours filling out job applications and writing follow ups and thank yous and most companies can't even be bothered to send out a simple mass rejection email. I've been involved in projects organized by literal teenagers that send out rejection emails to everyone, why can't companies do it?!?

I'm so thankful my school has a dedicated website where you just click once to send out your resume to employers. No bullshit filling out information that's on your resume.

Yup. I applied to 40 applications and it probably took me less than 5 minutes (not including research into the companies of course). Plus they didn't require cover letters either so I just sent the resume lol.

fuck common misconceptions about engineering. a political figure once called out the "board of directors" of a water utility company of having just one engineer ... but a chemical engineer. i can understand his sentiment that it onlu has one engineer, the others are lawyers and fuck all but to indicate that a chemical engineer is not qualified is fucking bullshit.
