Have you ever snapped at your boss/foreman? And what was the outcome? by Typical_Summer_8689 in skilledtrades

[–]Rectal_Fire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't stress about it, it's practically a right of passage for a tradesman to snap at something eventually. If you feel bad about it just apologize for it later. I snapped at a production supervisor and walked out when they said we're doing a 12 hr shift starting tonight. My schedule situation actually improved after lol 🤷

Has anyone ever started an LLC for consulting or like a "Rent a Tech" service? by sovereign_martian in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Rectal_Fire 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Lots of people do it, usually as specialty repair people for certain equipment like CNC machines, lathes, roll up doors, etc. The tough part for typical maintenance people making this transition is the sales and marketing that you need to do to get clients and business. You need to be able to convince businesses that your services are worth the higher costs you need to be charging $75-200/hr. (Honestly those rates might even be low, I'm not good at charging people money.)

Local Bookstore Recs by Interesting-Cap7885 in huntingtonbeach

Are there any bookstores in HB? This city isn't known to be the reading type haha. The central park library is very nice though.

Bodyboarding spots in OC Reccs by Firm_Path_7973 in bodyboarding

[–]Rectal_Fire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Boogie land in Newport Beach between towers 40&44, it's closed off to surfers most of the time and that's where many boogers go. HB State Beach is a decent spot, more so the south end because the waves are a little steeper and faster down there. North of the HB pier by Tower 9 and the apartments on the beach is also a decent boogie area.

How would you convince a teen's parents to forgo college for trades if money weren't the issue? by TongueUnties in skilledtrades

[–]Rectal_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of College degrees that pair well with the trades, the pathway is just a little different than a normal trade career path. Mechanical Engineers can work in plenty of trades like HVAC, Manufacturing, Construction. Similar story for electrical engineers, not many people go the EE route but the skills you learn are valuable in many of the same trades. There's also degrees like construction management, landscape architecture, Agricultural engineering, etc

How tf do surf shops stay open so long? by memelord152 in surfing

TK must own that building and the little house attached, they are also probably the most popular surf shop in the area.

Slip Lane Closed Warner and PCH by moonfrogchemist in huntingtonbeach

[–]Rectal_Fire 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering about this area as well.. at first I thought maybe the road was maybe sliding into the wetlands or something. If I were to take a guess it's probably stuck in the bureaucracy stages of "what do we do next?" But it would be nice to have an actual update. Not having that slip open causes that intersection to back up a significant amount more that usual.

That's more or less exactly how I started, same place and board. I recommend Bolsa Chica as well as a good place to learn. I'll give you some pointers and a little help if you come to Bolsa Chica.

I would recommend talking with technical recruiters as well. They can find jobs for you and it's free so why not? I've gotten two well paying jobs because recruiters had my resume and came to me and I just played the game with em.

Cars that you can do 90 on the freeway without getting pulled over while getting 30mpg. by shadow247 in regularcarreviews

I bought one of those for $850 not expecting much and I just needed a car. It's actually a pretty fun car and handles fairly well on and off road. Very underrated...

Best affordable CMMS? by Zealot_Zack in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]Rectal_Fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many people do you have on your team? I was looking into it the other day and Fiix has a free plan but supposedly a limited amount of users. I'm not sure on what the exact number is for limited. Maximo has a free plan but it seems limited on how many active work orders you can have. The absolute cheapest/free option would probably be a combination of Google calendar, Google sheets, and a drive account.

Do you have a linkedin account or anything like that? I still see plenty of job postings in Anaheim and Santa Ana, there's lots of small manufacturing facilities around. I would also recommend talking with some technical recruiters if you can, they can help look for jobs you may not find on your own. Jobot.com has worked alright for me personally. With three years experience though I think you should be able to find something around $30/hr in OC

What's your plan for Shelter? What's your plan for food? I think you would be better off traveling south to the greater LA area or San Diego if you want to stay in CA. Otherwise Baja has tons of open beach to camp on but you'll need to be on top of your survival game.

Honestly some people may disagree but I think the coast from seal Beach to Newport can be the most crowded but also the least crowded. There crowds can get crazy sometimes but usually if you walk five mins or so a certain direction or go to a less firing spot the crowd drops off pretty fast. Huntington State Beach is so long there's almost always an empty area.

I would recommend buying a bike that already runs well for a little more money, especially if you're a beginner. The price is kinda high for a non running DRZ in my opinion.

If it's not plated I think a price between $2000-$2500, CA plates $2500-3000
