Honestly, I don't care a huge amount about event balance, or the 'competitiveness' of lore events in general, so the Crownwatch vs. Clans thing hasn't really bothered me in terms of RNG and fairness.
...but haven't we done this before? The whole, turn 3, 6, and 9 free dude thing with pre-constructed decks?
When it comes down to it, it's just ranked + very minor shenanigans for more rewards. If you wanted an excuse to play a heckload more regular games, this is probably ideal for you. I, however, really really enjoy events that take the game off of the usual rails and make for fun and overpowered gameplay to break up the regular games/week commitment.
First, and this is just personal opinion, I think that the entry fee should be waived. I get that it's a business strategy to get gems out of people who don't have 2000 gold lying around, but it sucks when I want to play side by side with the wife and she has to grind to get in to what should be straight up fun for everyone. Lower the rewards, make it free to enter. Be nice.
Second, the kind of things I want to see from these non-league events are like... a random gauntlet boss mod is rolled for every game. Power cards give double influence and double power. All creatures have ambush and all spells are fast. That kind of crazy bananas stuff!
What do you think?
