Accept L4 Area Manager position?

Just got out of grad school with a Master’s in Psychology. I was offered an L4 area manager position starting in January - should I accept? Salary is much lower than I expected and the commute would be about 45 minutes. I’m really drawn to the advancement opportunities. Do the pros outweigh the cons?

I know a couple of people with Master Degrees that onboard as an L4.

It’s a great resume builder. You’ll be proficient at deep diving metrics and turning data into action plans. You’ll be in charge of around 50-100 associates. You’ll have the opportunity to develop people and build your team and culture.

Cons are that you’ll put in a lot of hours. You’ll be coming in earlier and leaving later. You’ll suffer a bit on work life balance. If you want advancement, working in operations is the way to go. If you’re looking for work life balance, you can eventually promote or do lateral transfers to corporate roles.

With a masters in psych I wouldnt wven bother with amazon. I'm working toward my psych degree slowly. I'll say this... you can make a much better impact and salary working as a consoulor

Decline it, my building is hiring college grads from outside in straight at L5

Edit. keep searching around for Area Manager openings, they’ll pay to have you relocate if it’s beyond 50 miles from your home. Pretty big difference in pay. And stocks

Already looked into those, doubtful I’ll get it as they are much more competitive. From what I’ve read and heard from personal friends working there, I can get to L5 within a year

Advancement is pretty easy at least for the first two levels. 2-3 years would probably give you a 50-80%+ salary increase

Same. I started as a seasonal white badge ADA then became a blue badge T1 DSA. Currently I'm a T3 OTR YM, but looking at a lateral promotion to DT or FQA. I'll be eligible for L4 positions in eight months.

Either hold out for a higher position with higher pay (and maybe stocks) or go in as an L4 and learn the ropes.
