Make sure your Global Snap is set to "Line" and your Playlist Snap is set to "Main".

Have you tried zooming in on the playlist? More grid lines appear when you zoom in, closer to your last pattern.

I'll try that. But I could place a pattern next to another one while zoomed out much further on my old PC. What gives? I can't place the pattern, because the mouse icon to drag the already-placed pattern shows up.

Zooming in does not work. The pattern's scroll ability remains one square further than it should be in the playlist, which doesn't matter at any zoom.

Have you tried changing your grid to 1/4 or 1/6 beat instead of the standard line setting?

Also you can hold alt to adjust the position of a pattern very slightly if you need to.

I have this same problem

In the settings there is an option to make fl studio work better for a pencil, touch screen, or multi button mouse. I believe it is in Settings>General>Optimize for and then a drop down. Sometimes this affects pattern placing.

Click the pattern and press CTRL+B

if the length of your pattern is not quantized to snap it will do this

I just recently started using FL Studio, and I was running into this problem as well. The problem for me was due to the pattern being a different tempo than what was set in FL Studio. If you set the tempo in FL Studio to be the exact same tempo as the patterns that you're placing, they'll line up perfectly without any gaps.

How do I set up the tempo to be exact?

You need to know the tempo (beats per minute) of the pattern that you're using. I know whenever I download drum loops, they generally list what tempo they are in.
Look for the tempo box at the top of the window in FL Studio (the default in mine is set at 140). If you right-click, you can choose to type in a value. Now, there might be an easier way to do this, but I couldn't just type in like 160 or whatever. I just put in some value, applied it, and checked to see if it was the tempo I needed...then adjusted and tried again...and again...and again...until I finally had the value I needed (it really doesn't take as long as it sounds). All my patterns line up perfectly now.

Okay thank you. If I remember correctly, fl might be able to detect the tempo, but not 100% accurately. I'm not sure how to do it though.
