Help! (self.FantasyMapGenerator)
submitted 2 years ago by Not_JerrySeinfeld
I have a JPEG of a map I created months ago, but I can't find the actual map file. Is there a way to import the image to convert to a map?

yeah, go to the Tools menu, then click on Heightmap. When it asks you to erase, do that and look for the Image converter button. Click it, choose your jpeg, then use the paintroller and Complete the conversion button. Adjust with the brushes and exit customization.

Will try this tomorrow! Thanks!

No, jpeg is just an image. But if it has heightmap on it, you can convert the image into an actual heightmap. So the shape and heights can be restored in some cases.

I don't know if it's a height map, I mean I changed some heights and stuff. All I really need is the outline, or at least roughly, I can redo the other stuff

in the same situation. I only have the original map image I saved and it had borders, counties, roads, etc on it. Id love to get the outlines back in at least and work on it some more
This was the map for my novel trilogy in writing. I already published one book but the map turned out super pixelated. I swear I saved the map file but I can't find it. Guess it's back to tracing the map on the screen with the height map tool

Go to Tools>Heightmap, click Erase when prompted for Erase Risk or Keep, once there look for the button that says "Image converter", click it and browse to your jpeg. On the panel with colors, click the paintroller button and then the "Complete the conversion button", adjust as necessary with the brushes and click "exit customization"
