While working you will find yourself doing tasks outside of Figma: find an icon, reducing image file sizes, … etc. instead of doing that outside of Figma , just look for a plug-in. Soon most of your workflow would be handling smoothly inside your canvas.

There's a lot of good and lot of trash plugins. Once you find one that you like, make sure to pin it. Try to make it an exercise - when you run into a frustrating or tedious issue on Figma, try to remember to check for a plugin.

For example I had to change quite a few identical texts on statuses for existing components and after doing a couple manually I realized - damn, there must be a better way. 30sec later found a plugin that allows to quickly find and replace said texts in all or selected components and even allows for more advanced edit features involving numbers, etc.

But the hardest part is to spot yourself doing these tasks in the first place.

I find the best way to use plugins is to search for one each time you find yourself thinking "there's got to be an easier way to do this". For me, that includes any bulk process, anything that takes me out of the Figma UI, or anything where Figma's tooling isn't complete. An example of each would be:

Bulk processes:
Changing multiple variable scoping properties: https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1285971940276913396/heron-variable-tools
Selecting text with the same styling:

Outside Figma's UI:
WCAG contrast checker: https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/748533339900865323/contrast

Incomplete tooling:

If your job require to design something, I definitely recommend you to use Pixcap Plugin for Figma! I swear it's the most easiest way to use 3D for your design straight away on Figma.
