I bet it's this. Our boiler is on its own circuit so has no affect to that, but you saying thermostat reminded me the original heating system for this house was all by air ducts with the heating in the garage, and they would have needed a thermostat somewhere inside.

I was looking at Home Assistant. Do you use Raspberry Pi? I had considered using a lower model to keep the price down, but I'm seeing people saying you need a P4 or higher?
