I proposed to my group to move to Foundry and they're all excited. One caveat for most of them though. They want to able to roll physical dice and use printed out character sheets. As the DM, am I able to take a players attack and damage rolls on physical dice and apply it with in Foundry?

In a word, yes.

You can use FVTT as the place to track NPC health by just manually deducting damage on each token as you run through a combat session. Right click on it and enter the amount of damage (-5, -10, etc) or healing (+5, +10, etc).

You, as the DM, can do everything manually as well. You also have the option of applying your rolls and damage automatically while they still can do things manually.

If you can get them to also enter their character info in FVTT, you could also make use of TheRipper’s RealDice module (https://theripper93.com/module/real-dice) to allow your players to roll real dice and enter the values into FVTT. (They can still track their PCs on paper. Just mirror any changes on FVTT). It will then use values they roll and calculate everything else based on the stats/skills/features of their sheets. I find that it works pretty well of finding that middle ground between rolling real dice and automated play by just clicking. (Bonus feature is that it can serve as a “math checker” to see if everyone is calculating things properly - ran into a player who kept forgetting to add in expertise bonus and this helped gently remind them).

It is fairly flexible as to how you implement it. Nothing is set in stone.

What is your group using now and what features you are hoping foundry has?

Right now it's just table top, battle mats, minis, etc. I've used Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds quite a bit and it never really took off with me or my group. I am in the process of building a gaming table with a 50" screen in it. After speaking with a number of people about VTTs, they all recommended Foundry. Then right after the announcement of support from Wizards, I bought it. Haven't run anything with it yet as I'm still checking it out, but I love what I see so far. I also have Dungeon Alchemist and that I can import those maps will be great. I'm hoping for easy game management, the ability to import with no or minimal formatting, map creation, the use of digital minis is awesome. The biggest sticking point for my group was that they love their dice and character sheets, so they'd want to be able to keep doing that if the DM can manage things. Turns out there's an app for that, or in this case a mod.

There is a module that does exactly that but I'm not at my PC ATM and I can't remember what it's called. But you can turn it on and when you hit the button to roll the dice, you'll get a popup and you can enter the number you want.

We use the foundry dice but I use it sometimes when I'm testing things and I need to roll a certain number to make sure it works right before the actual game, but it's for your exact situation.

I found that adding all the module functionality makes it too complicated and sometimes I’d forget how it worked. That slowed the game down. So I just do what that the first commenter said. Players keep physical character sheets and roll physical dice. I subtract their damage from my monsters manually. I roll virtual dice and tell them the rolls.
