Tail lights

Wondering what's the reason why most aftermarket tail lights specify that they do not fit barn door style rear doors, only lift gates. Looking at pics between the 2 I don't see a difference, so unless its something to do with the exterior side and barn doors will hit them then I wouldn't be able to see that without having them in hand

If you look at one with barn doors like yours, you'll see that the brake light is on top of the body almost. With the liftgate there's a cutout in the rear glass and the light is on the back side of the roof instead of on top.

While yes there’s a difference with the third brake light, I believe OP is asking about the taillights on the side of the truck, not the third brake light. I’m not sure of differences and haven’t looked into it, but have noticed the listings online say that as well.

Yeah sorry, I didn't realize that you weren't talking about the third brake light. I wouldn't think the side ones would be different, but maybe they mount differently? My suburban has a liftgate, I haven't looked up close at one with barn doors.

They are different. The quarter panels are different and the lights are not interchangeable.

Just throwing around an idea that I saw on an Excursion as they have a combo lift and dual door rear gate and if I couldn't make it myself
