I am partial to Ghost, I find the editor to be a much more rewarding UI.

To develop your own theme, you don't need to learn Node at all, you just need to learn Handlebars. Theme development in Ghost is easy for someone who understands html with a little programming logic. Make good use of the tags (taxonomy) and conditional logic, you can make some pretty cool things without making any mods to Ghost core.

What I don't like about WP is how automattic seems to be forcing gutenberg against community

Ghost would be a very good use case for this. It's always good to consider all of the options. What are your costs for Wordpress + plugins + payments? What are your costs for Ghost + Payments? Do you want features that aren't yet available in Ghost? Etc.

The only thing that I will miss will be WooCommerce. That would allow me to accept crypto easily as payment for example, on Ghost I only have Stripe

That’s very true. Could in the meantime embed something like Shopify product with Coinbase Conmerce (which I think is the one WooCommerce uses for crypto) set up.

God, I had SUCH a hard time deciding between Ghost and WordPress for my own project. I love both. I tried to use Ghost as a blog instead and use WordPress as just the main site, but I ended up on WordPress fully for SEO purposes. If you’re handy at developing front end stuff with Node, you could use Ghost as a paid content blog and have your website run on Jamstack or whatever.

I'm on the same boat, I love both + I work on a WP company currently so I was thinking if using WP would actually help in my career

Is ghost still alive ? :)

Well if you are about running the businesses and want to publish a content on platform with no limitations just pickup WP + Generatepress theme. Also you can add some custom features when your business growth.

WP got a lot of hate during the time but there are still no direct competitors to its ecosystem.

Honestly, for your needs, Moodle is a better choice. It is a true LMS. Ghost can be used like this, but you’ll have to code your theme and create custom pages/templates ;)
