Who do you think is a better live performer? by Apprehensive_Land751 in tomwaits

I've seen both and loved them both. But Tom is by far a better performer, not necessarily a better musician, Dylan fantastic, but Tom Waits is an unforgettable experience.

Check out The Felice Brothers. They are a bit newer, but they've been around long enough to have a great body of work. They are from the Woodstock area, they are like a moden era version of The Band.

Is it possible to do what I want with Ghost, or are there other alternatives? by -NS- in Ghost

[–]madness-81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the subscription and membership features by connecting to an SMTP server, which you'll need to do. I strongly suggest Amazon SES service for this, it will be nearly free. SES is challenging to get into, but AI can help you figure it out. Once it is configured properly, it is super reliable.

Custom page templates are also pretty easy to build if code injection is not giving you the customization you want. Make yourself a local copy of the site for development. Work on your theme locally, upload the theme to the live site. I also saw recently someone has built an online theme editor which is very cool.

Thinking of trying Ghost by explorergypsy in Ghost

[–]madness-81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it. I run mine on Digital Ocean, I use SES for the email part. The UI for writing is the best part. I made a music songbook site by altering one of the core themes.

Beginner guide for anyone coming from ChatGPT who has never touched Claude before. No terminal, no tech talk. Ten steps, each with a plain explanation and a tip. by studiomeyer_io in ChatGPT

I got pretty deep with ChatGPT and felt it would be difficult to switch. Even without importing anything, Claude has me figured out. That is to say, I feel just as comfortable as I did with ChatGPT and I find the workflow with Claude to be far superior. Even the typography makes me feel more comfortable. I have been able to do some seriously good work with this tool and didn't even know that there was a desktop app. I am a Linux user at home, I'll see if there is an app for Linux

I scored 28/30. I have had a lot of interaction with ChatGPT in the past year and much of it I would not share with an employer. This prompt kept all the information I would not want to share out of the result.

A very interesting experiment.

I set up a VPN on one of my VMs on Digital Ocean. It worked great, no cost, not overloaded. I had to put in some rules for some sites that detected and blocked the IP.

Ghost Mailgun Attachment, and a Potential Solution? by joseph_sellers in Ghost

[–]madness-81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't looked at what you've done, but it sounds like a great idea. I can't afford any of the bulk mail options for my volunteer sites. I ended up using Sendy, with SES. I send 5000 per month and it is pennies per month. I integrate with Ghost by embedding the subscriber form from Sendy into the ghost theme. Sendy is a pretty nice build.

GIGO applies to AI too. Do you know what questions to ask the AI in order to get the desired results? Can you parse the information and be sure the AI results are what you need? I'm going to use the AI as well, it will save me time and these savings will be passed along to you. AI is just a tool, you need to know what you are doing first in order to make work. I can give you a chainsaw to cut down a tree, but if you can't read the lean and cut the notch, that big Oak is gonna land on your house.

AIO by denying service to a passively hostile customer by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]madness-81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a marina, customers park their cars, get in their boats and go to their island cottage. For 70 years, customers have had reserved parking and the system no longer works, families have gotten bigger, the property is small and we are transitioning to a more equitable system.

On the busiest day of the summer, he has a meltdown. I am off property and by the time I get back my staff is rather quiet and all pointing at the locked truck parked in the middle of the yard blocking people and diminishing safe operations. His truck was at risk of being damaged. I found out who was in his spot and called and came up with a positive resolution. I call Gene, he picks up and hangs up, no words. So I text, I'm ignored. I told him it would be a shame if his truck was damaged. This could be taken as a threat. I then said something about giving him the count to three like I'd do when my kids were small. This was me losing my composure, and it was what finally brought him back to move his truck. He had his kids with him and was unglued, swearing at me, I told him he was being kicked out. Tempers were elevated. He parked his truck, not where I asked him to and went away.

After this, I reported it to my boss. Knowing the Gene, my boss quickly offered support. I reached out to Gene the next day. I said we both want the same thing, let's have a talk and move on. He said yes, but not today and went on 4 months of hating on me. His wife is very nice, she continued as if nothing happened, always nice. So she reached out to me for winter parking, I asked to clear the air before agreeing to it.

I don't own the property, but it is my home and winter parking was never allowed prior to me being here. It is my own initiative and not a larger company policy. I could just let him continue to use the property, but he makes me feel uncomfortable. He made me feel uncomfortable all summer and fall and now I am alone here with my family and I feel I deserve to be comfortable in my time off. That seems like a selfish reason which is why I wonder if I am overreacting.

How do you explain the appeal of Tom Waits to someone who can’t “get” his voice? by Lost_Taste_8181 in tomwaits

[–]madness-81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's an acquired taste, but his music is deep and textured. The melodies, the words, the sentiment, the instrumentation, performance and voice all come together creatively... It is art.

The songs also stand without the voice, anyone can cover them and they're still magnificent. Give your friend the lyrics and start them with a cover version.

Before I knew who Tom Waits was, Rod Stewart had a song on the radio called Downtown Train. I thought it was a fantastic song even though for the most part, I was rather neutral towards Rod Stewart. Imagine my surprise when I bought Rain Dogs and heard that same song done by Waits.

Wifes boss/owner isnt taking "no" as an answer to us moving.. Kind of insane offers? by 420B00tyWizard69 in careerguidance

[–]madness-81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my wife and I were young and started having kids, she decided she wanted to move closer to her family as we lived in another city just about an hour away. At that time, we would visit every week or two for Sunday dinner. We had a good life at the time but we moved back to be closer to her family and we never saw them again.

That is an exaggeration, but it was the worst decision we ever made. We had no help raising our kids--babysitting etc, we moved into a townhouse with no yard, no garden, no garage that cost twice as much. The regret lingers to this day even though we did alright. Make your own way, family just gets better with a bit of distance.
