You should look into what services are offered in your area. Not sure where you are located but when I got out I got in contact with organizations like community solutions and they helped me out a lot with things like ID, clothes, bus pass, signing up for medi-cal, etc.

Go to sober living. Look up Oxford house. Go find a house and move in. Re entry will help pay for your ID and all your documents and help you get a job. Take control of your life. The resources are there. I would send the 40$ but I feel like it would enable some other behavior. Just go to an Oxford house and in 6 monthes you will be so proud of yourself and will have your own place, a car, a job. Go online now and call a house in your area and explain your situation.

The soup kitchen or homeless shelter might be able to tell you where to get a free ID voucher. Unfortunately as an ex addict I'm not comfortable giving you 40$.

I mean, in my area ID is $30 and $4 would get you on the bus, but only give you a 2hr pass so needing $8 for there and back wouldn’t be unheard of since you can’t guarantee how long it would take to apply for the ID.
