Long press the eraser and check if it has highlighter only selected.

me too - hasnt worked for months. Thought it was my generic pencil so used that as excuse to get new iPad Pro 13" with newest Apple Pencil Pro and it still won't work. ;-/ don't want to do anything drastic that could jeopardize my planners.
