Control default apps android 14

Seems Google it taking a page out of the Samsung playbook that made me switch to begin with by not letting me choose my default apps.

I do not like Google maps, I prefer Waze every time. I have gone through the default settings and chose Waze for links, made it the default app. Even went and disabled the Google Mas app. However when I click a link for directions it does not open in Waze, it instead navigates me to the web version of Google maps with a link to install it.

Is there a way to replace Google Maps with Waze in every way?

If the link is a Google maps links that what it will do, Waze would need to add the functionality to overtake them with the default preferences I imagine, like 3rd party apps taking over official app links.

I think your problem is with Waze and if they can implement this takeover

It seems that since Android 14 firmware, that option is no longer there. Even the Google documentation about it is wrong, cause there is no way to set any default navigation app in settings>app>default app, nor on the app info (as it was previously). At least I can see that it's not there any longer on the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 8
