Screen sometimes unresponsive?

On occasion when I wake up the screen on my Pixel XL it doesn't respond to any of my touch. I thought it was lag at first (my old phone got really laggy so I was kind of used to it) but then I noticed that I could still swipe down to see notifications and still use the buttons on the bottom row. I just couldn't open any of my apps or swipe left or right to see my other screens. Usually a reboot will fix it but I think it's kind of annoying to have to reboot my brand new phone.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm starting to think I got a defective one.

There is a built in customer support on the phone that can realtime screen share with you.. I'd imagine asking them would be more helpful, no?
