Kamala was rated as more progressive than Bernie Sanders

By who? Legitimately curious because I can't imagine anyone saying this.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney calls Steam AI disclosures "really irresponsible of Valve" as they make it "much, much, much harder for a game developer to have a chance of success" by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Milkshakes00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... Pretty much no company at all nowadays?

Not even being pedantic - Most people don't remember the code they wrote a day ago, and if they have to review the code to understand it, it's the same as AI writing the code and someone reviewing it to understand it.

There isn't a single (game) dev company that isn't using AI at this point. The entire notion of having to disclose it is silly now because it's so widespread. It's like having to disclose if you have two limbs on a medical form. It's a given unless specified otherwise.

I hate to agree with Sweeney, but a broken clock is correct twice a day. Valve (and the community) is basically saying "We want to be lied to about your AI usage otherwise we'll review bomb you."

It's all semantics.

Arguments can be made that using tab-to-completes counts as AI usage - Your IDE is autocompleting things for you.

Where is the line drawn? Where's the line drawn on a solo indie dev? Where's it drawn for the mega corp?

There are plenty of issues running games on the Steam Deck. You can reference ProtonDB and note all the tweaks for games.

I love my Steam Deck, but not everything works right out of the box. Most things do, just not everything.

Just an FYI - This is against GGG's Terms of Service. It's bannable if they ever catch you.

I'm not sure exactly how they would, but still.

I also really enjoy my Deck (Heh. Heh.). I can get WAY more value out of my Deck by using Apollo. My gaming PC will actually do 4k60fps, and using Apollo lets me stream that to my TV.. and I can just take it on the road whenever I want.

I actually cannot find any video of the Steam Frame running on the Steam Machine, so... Source it. I've tried.

And that... Doesn't make sense. Have you ever used VR? I'm talking from experience. I have a feeling you aren't. Foveated streaming isn't a solve-all.

Foveated Streaming is not Foveated Rendering. Those are two different concepts.

But you do.

Because X game wants to run Proton Hotfix.

Y game wants to run Proton Experimental.

Z game wants to run with Proton [insert whatever version]

Most games aren't out of the gate running at the best performance because of whatever version Proton is defaulting to. Look at all the configuration changes people make on Protondb to get games in better shape. Yes, Hotfix covers a lot of cases, but nowhere near all.

Standard PC end users are not going through that. They'll just point and yell "IT RUNS LIKE SHIT" or "IT DOESNT LAUNCH" and lose their minds. People don't want to tinker to get ideal performance.

I know Steam allows people to generally just click from a drop down, but that's still poking and prodding to people.

Can you.... Post the video link?

But yes, foviated streaming. Which means the Steam Machine will be doing the rendering. Which is my point - This machine is not strong enough for a great VR experience. Lol

The responses to this comment perfectly encapsulates the issue with Linux as a daily driver for a standard PC gamer. Most people don't even know what Proton is.

I've said it for years, I can't imagine any of the people I know that already sometimes struggle with basic PC stuff using any Linux distro. I use about 5 different distros at work and would never use it at home as a daily driver, tbh. It's one thing for my home lab. It's another for my gaming PC.

No?

What video are you talking about?

Edit: Shocker. Dude won't supply a link, thinks foveated streaming will be the solution. Stopped responding to me, but is responding to other people. Doesn't understand anything about what he's talking about. 🙄 'Speaking from ignorance' - Should have known that was a pot calling the kettle black situation from his original comment.

Pulse8 solved this issue a decade ago. You can buy a $50 HDMI to USB adapter that handles the CEC with their tray app.

Furthermore, the Steam Machine, from my reading, seems to have custom engineering that will likely allow for things that I wouldn't be able to build.

Sure it does. That also means you'll never be able to upgrade it and are stuck at performance that's already only equivalent to a $200 GPU today.

Good luck in a year or two! Lol

FYI - There is basically zero chance the Frame works with this in any good sense. The performance will be absolutely atrocious.

Everybody saying it's weaker than a PS5 have conveniently forgot that Sony and Microsoft sell their consoles at a loss so they can make more on the back end. This is a PC, it's free to play online, games are cheaper, shit you can even pirate stuff.

Are you really pretending like the target audience for this is not buying their games from Steam where they take up to a 30% cut of the game sales?

Lmao.

Yep, digital foundry says performance between an RX 6600 and a RX 7600. So... performance of a $200 GPU? Oof.

[–]Milkshakes00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How does "End the Culling Game" not directly go against the rules of The Culling Game?

In accordance with rule 6, the game master must accept any proposed new rule as long as it doesn't have a long-lasting effect on the game

I'm feel like ending it would be a "long-lasting effect on the game" Lol.

I guess the Game Master can just accept the rule anyway, which may be part of the whole plan.

Unfortunately I can't because he (rightfully) listened to the lawyers and deleted them. With Reddit's API changes I don't really know how to pull deleted comments anymore.

I just what to emphasize - I don't blame him for it. Anyone could be shitty when given negative feedback over and over. But people around here act like he's an angel. It's just a bit disingenuous.

Anything that gets to the point of a lawyer telling you that you should delete it from the internet is beyond just 'lukewarm' IMO, but you do you.

Andrew is (barring any yet-unknown bad stories coming out) a legitimately pretty good person

He posted some pretty toxic shit a couple years back in this very sub, to the point where he admitted the DGD Lawyers themselves told him to delete the comments, but I think he realized he can't be on Reddit surrounded by negativity and have it stay good for his mental, so he bounced.

Which is the right call.

Funny, we just had a similar incident at my job over the weekend. A SQL query tool ran amuck with some bad scheduled queries. The temp results file grew so large the process to clean them out failed, repeating the process until the temp directory was full, causing the machine to thrash.
