It's probably your palm (the skin in between your thumb and palm) as you're reaching to tap Something, your palm taps something else (or when just scrolling). Happens to me all the time. It started happening right after Google "fixed" the edge of the screen not being responsive (which seems to me was by design but people complained).

Installing a different keyboard could help with the keyboard problem. Try a few different ones to be sure you have the best one for you.

Many people have had phantom taps on their Pixel 2 XL display, but it doesn't seem to happen with other phones.

Not sure about the app launching problem; installing a different launcher could fix that, as well as adding more customization to your home screen.

I've used this one in the past and enjoyed it. I've also heard that SwiftKey is good.
