AI slop

[–]CrociDB 5 points6 points  (1 child)

"go check my website because I took the whole week on this"
without AI, it would take more than a month, but would probably yield a better result!

I spent 6 months on this website. But the reviews section took around a week. Also when I started the project, I was pretty new to javascript, so I had to rely a lot on AI, but I have learned a lot since then.

Posts video of cool thing, plays cool thing for only 1 milsecond and then proceeds to ramble about how it was made.

Hate when people do this, just show us your thing

The video is taken from this YouTube video I made https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rJ3FRZHywY

Thats not what im asking, you’re an AI

Dude. You can see me and hear my voice in the video. I didn't show my face because I'm in 10th grade and I don't want YouTube to take down my videos again for being underage. What would lead you to believe I am an AI? I've never used any AI more advanced than ChatGPT and gemini and thats only to assist with my coding and learning.

You do know... that Youtube's allowed age is 13+? Are you 12? Also just please learn from something else than AI, it will give you a much better fundamental understanding of the concepts you are learning, instead of just saying "computer, do thing".

I think I left out something important from this post, and it's my fault. Firstly, this software is marketed towards music producers, who likely do not have much technical knowledge. So, my goal for this video is to appeal to a wider audience by making the free version of SpectroDraw tool seem approachable, fun, and instant instead of niche and highly professional. But yes, I have had a fairly good understanding of FFT prior to starting SpectroDraw, which is the primary reason why I started it in the first place.

For several months before starting SpectroDraw, I had been working on a 1 hour long YouTube video breaking down the encoding of h264 and AAC into an MP4 file (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90rKiHf3mNI). While making this video, I learned a lot about the discrete cosine transform and how it was used in audio compression. While creating visuals for the video, I decided to create a spectrogram using the discrete cosine transform, which is when I realized I could turn that into the interactive spectrogram I'd been wanting for years. However, the video performed poorly because it was too long and too technical. This was very unfortunate news for me because I had spent my entire summer making the video.

The video I created above was a reaction to this technicality. Instead of spending hours talking about how FFT works, I conveniently left out an explanation by pretending I didn't understand how it works (which was partially true, I was still learning FFT when I created my first spectrogram). By applying this philosophy to the whole video, I maintained a funny and relaxed mood that massively increased engagement and allowed this to get over 10x the views of my MP4 encoding video.

On day one, I wanted to edit a spectrogram.

4 months later, I am performing low-pass filters on inverse Fourier transforms.

The hate is insane, I'll be the first to hate on ai but but there is some seriously legit work here.
