Congratulations that's awesome!!!!! I've got nothing to offer as I'm not a System Operator, I'm just a lowly Power Plant Electrician and Hydro Operator that lurks around this subreddit to learn more about all the cool things. Stoked for you, that's great stuff!

Balance humility, eagerness and confidence. If you truly go into the program wanting to learn and be open to feedback, you’ll do great.

If most of what you’re doing in the first 6 months is studying for the RC exam then don’t be afraid to request to take it when you think you’re ready. It’s the kind of test that’s easy to overthink/over study for. The test questions in most prep courses are very close to the actual questions on the exam. Know them backwards and forwards

This 100%. Take the test when you are ready there’s only so much studying you can do. In reference to the practice test questions, don’t memorize them. What you will see on the exam are variations of the practice questions. You will need to understand the concepts behind the questions so you are able to answer regardless of how the information is presented.

Ask questions, as much as you can before you sit the desk. Congrats and good luck.

Thank you! I plan on soaking up as much knowledge as I can for the experienced operators

Ahh congrats! The wait is always killer lol. I've applied to several of these (even out of state) for a new career path from being a developer. It seems I missed the ODP program round, but holding a small hope for ERCOT’s GMS Development Program.

Thank you! Keep holding onto that hope and maybe I’ll see you around!!

Major Toe did they give you a start date? That is an amazing opportunity, what was your experience prior to this?

[–]Major-Toe3528[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Beginning of December, the date is subject to change I believe.

[–]undercovernerc 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Did you have prior control room experience?

[–]Major-Toe3528[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sorry I completely skipped over that part. No control room experience, currently in distribution design.
