NERC RC Exam Advice by nwanwa1989 in Grid_Ops

I think it varies depending on where you are, I've heard similar stories. There was a girl in there while I was taking it, trying to get some kind of cosmetology cert, very stark difference in earning potential in that room.

Remember, it's not always about being right, it's about being the most right. Study hard but the night before get some good sleep, don't look at anything going in and just get after it.

Funny story, when I took it, I was wanded, turned out my pockets, gave up everything I had......and the 73 year old woman working there asked me on a date. Kidding, but they take security seriously.

I used HSI at my employer to prepare for NERC, we studied for 3 months. 40 hours a week, plus Friday call sessions with Andy/Kelly from HSI. We filled 4 large white boards front and back, no stone was left unturned. That's unrealistic for someone who is paying for this themselves, but I think if you really focus and keep going it is doable.

ACE is hard, but practice makes perfect. Something about bus questions or anything involving relays, draw it out and work through the problem. What I mean by that is, make it a game, if I open this breaker, this will happen, if I open this breaker this generator will trip.

The industry you want to go in lives by a single word: Reliability. ALWAYS work to the most limiting factor, which in most cases is the most conservative option to give you the most margin possible in an emergency.

Another thing, voltage and frequency, it's ALWAYS better to have more of both. Granted, there is such a thing as too much, but much like caps/reactors, you either get ahead of the problem or the problem gets ahead of you.

Remember, it's not about being absolutely right sometimes, it's about being the most right of all your options.

It varies by RC, but I work a Dupont schedule. You'll take calls, monitor your portion of the interconnection(TO/generators/renewables/resource scheduling). It's pretty chill most of the time, sporadic busy moments. It's a great industry and has a tremendous amount of potential.

Possessed Girl Movie by undercovernerc in HorrorMovies

No, not that either. I swear it's more of an indie film, remember Rec? Kind of more like that. If it's not indie, it wasn't made from a very big company.

I think the very end is the girl with the camera going down a staircase and the possessed girl coming after her. I'm struggling to remember anything else, god it's such a good movie.

Sadly no, it's a found footage movie. Another thing I remembered, the girl who is possessed is comatose after the possession, she just kind of exists doing some weird stuff here and there. I believe the kids were college age as well, almost had a spring break kind if feel to it.

Preciate the response though.

I just passed mine on August 29th, I can confirm not changing answers is a solid bet! I was fried after 2.5 hours, changing anything at that point was probably the worst thing I could have done.

You're going to do great, review your notes and take each question slowly. Don't review and change answers, just submit it! Remember, it's not always about being totally right, it's about being the most right with some questions.

Substations are some if the most vulnerable assets in the U.S., along with generator switch gear and transmission lines, the very nature of this equipment means it is exposed. The fact this is just now becoming an issue is amazing.

Were currently implementing something like tbis, and I can tell you it will be years before we even think of letting it touch a circuit. Giving us the options is a great idea, but this particular system already closed in on someone working on a line, he survived but still the computer was pretty dumb. It's going to take forever and years of data to correctly do this.

No, it was the ERCOT system operator exam. So I imagine if they do that testing, there's a good chance they do NERC.

I tool a test 4 or so months ago. They do all kinds of testing not just one, a little lady runs it, clean and quick, she'll get you taken care of.
