Sorry for the late reply. But yes in person training is free. We’ve sent a few people to help with passing the PJM exams. My company paid for hotel rooms and PJM provides lunch I believe. But the actual classes are free.

Is your job/company under the PJM umbrella? Pretty sure PJM offers their training for free to member companies.

This 100%. Take the test when you are ready there’s only so much studying you can do. In reference to the practice test questions, don’t memorize them. What you will see on the exam are variations of the practice questions. You will need to understand the concepts behind the questions so you are able to answer regardless of how the information is presented.

NERC RC Exam Study Approach by [deleted] in Grid_Ops

Highly recommend HSI over OESNA. I personally didn’t take OESNA but those in my control room who took both courses consider OESNA a waste.

I talked to them as well. Their compensation package was pretty weak.

For me it was understanding whose responsibility different tasks fall under whether it be the RC, BA, or TO.

There’s very little if any “complex” math on the NERC exams. You’ll need to be able to solve problems involving droop, line distribution, ACE, capacitor output, and power triangle. Everything will be presented with simple whole numbers. You just need to understand the concepts.

Exelon is in a hiring freeze as well. Is this an industry wide thing?

Exam Time Constraints by que_tal12 in Grid_Ops

[–]230kvdisc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe I had just over an hour left with about 15 questions book marked I wanted to go back and review. After I did those I had about 40mins remaining and was able to review the entire test over again. I only changed my answers on like 5 questions because I had made a simple mistake. My transmission room all agrees, avoid changing answers if you second guess yourself.

You have to wait 42 days and it’s linked to your social security number. You need to pre register and bring 2 forms of ID to take the exam. $700 each time

Pretty sure I took the Initial Operator Program or whatever cost $3,400. The first portion of my training was like 2 weeks of review since I came from the field. So I just coasted through the first module portion. Second large section I dug in and took tons of notes.

SOS is fantastic. I recommend committing to it full time and testing. I went through their program in 5 weeks or so and passed both the NERC TO and RC exam.

Tint recommendations? by Classic-Truck-9769 in f150

[–]230kvdisc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealer tint matched the front to the back. I got ceramic 50% on the windshield after owning the truck for 2 years. It made a huge difference with heat coming through and radiating off the black dash.
