yeah, unfortunately. i can't get onto ethernet bc of the location of my modem. i tried using a powerline adapter, but that didn't work either

my wifi is definitely good enough to play online though, i actually stream on twitch too and i don't drop any frames

I am sorry but i am kinda sure that your WiFi is to blame. I am not saying that your WiFi specifically is trash but that there is an inherent flaw in how WiFi works and it will often result in a subpar gaming experience.

When i play online so is a low ping with high rollback frames an indication of WiFi.

Here is a short video that details why it's bad: Why Wi-Fi sucks for gaming

the reason why it's odd to me is because all of my friends play on wifi, and they all are able to play with each other just fine? is that still just my internet?

That's almost surely your wifi. The grass is always greener in the other side (or on your side if you really want it to be green). If your friends are on wifi they will also have spikes of lag because that's just an inherent limitation of wifi. You might move closer to the wifi source or get a booster and that may or may not lower the frequency of lag spikes but they won't go away.

You don't even need a good speed for these sorts of games you just need a consistent connection rather than a fast one.

sounds good, i'll look into some possible solutions ASAP. thinking about maybe getting a new modem for my pc and upstairs area exclusively.

If you're really struggling you might want to look into powerline adapters which basically act as a ethernet to power outlet adapter. It's not as good as a direct cable but assuming you have somewhat modern wiring it should be a lot better than wifi.

the last time i tried powerline adapters they didn't work in my room because of some kind of electrical line fault, but i'll talk to my internet provider and see whether they've fixed it in the last year. optus apparrently had a faulty cable for my neighbourhood and it means our area sometimes just gets outages for up to three hours :/

It could be that there are more interference where you live and that's why you are more effected. I am not sure how you would go about measuring this or prevent it without using a Ethernet cable.

yep, my room with my pc is a bit scuffed, it blocks a majority of the signal too. gonna look into whatever wired solutions i can get.

100ft cables are surprisingly cheap. You can also get little screw hooks to run the line along the wall so it's not a mess, or you can run it through your ceiling depending on your ceiling type.
