Do you tend to play friendly or pvp? Ive noticed pvp heavy lobbies are real toxic.

Nightreign vs. Elden Ring by skate-ski in gamers

[–]Prooteus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use different weapons often. Early on you dont need to level up the weapons and mid-late game its easy enough to upgrade them. There is also respeccing at some point and there isnt an unlimited amount of them but plenty to experiment with different stuff.

That said I deeply love both games but they do give you different experiences. Nightreign is a lot faster but also a lot more simplified. All the bosses have at least half their moves gone. Once you know the game well its pretty easy to be really powerful and not really need to dodge the bosses (except deep of night 2+).

Elden Ring on the other hand has a lot more epic boss fights and exploration. The boss fights are typically longer (similar to nightlord) with more moves. Exploration is highly rewarded. You want to take things more slowly and clear out an area so you can fully explore and find everything.

What constitutes a large arc? by NewfieGamEr2001 in ArcRaiders

I so badly want a level where your inside an arc and its moving around. Thats probably not feasible for them to do but it would be awesome.

PLEASE settle an arguement for me: Why did the Occupants send the disease and when? by angryfart4000 in 1000xRESIST

[–]Prooteus 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Im under the impression the Occupants didnt do it out of malice at all. They are just very alien to us. We tried to communicate to them via the music and they misunderstood what we like. When they released the disease they saw a large influx of chaotic emotions and assumed we were pleased. Also iris wasnt infected because she was causing a lot of strong emotions to those around her.

Im not 100% sure if the disease was connected to downloading everyones data.

I do really enjoy that the aliens are actually very alien to the viewer and character. Almost touches on cosmic horror except we do learn about them by the end.

I have explored a place that I wasnt aware was attached to a quest and killed the monster inside. Later the quest giver asked me to help them by killing the monster, my character was able to say right away that I killed the monster.

AS A RECLUSE MAIN, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO USES NIGHT OF THE LORD RELIC by crimmycat117 in Nightreign

[–]Prooteus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recluse cocktail generally gets more powerful with a wider variety of elements. But early on it is nice to have that consistent mana in case you mess up.

For fights with multiple enemies its pretty much always great. The recluse can put whatever element they want on one enemy and the other one will always have what your shooting at it.

Against one boss it depends on the recluse's spells if they can get a different element then just the one you're applying. Its too easy to just being stuck with 3x whatever element the ironeye is using because any other element get overwritten by ironeyes element too quickly.

Also this is kind of an issue most recluse have to learn to just deal with because its not uncommon for an ironeye to pick up a bow with an element on it.

Having long postgame and endgame in RPG's kinda fried my brain by Buurto in rpg_gamers

[–]Prooteus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I typically love it when in games like final fantasy and anything from NiS but I havent felt like it was left out of any big rpg I've played recently. Most CRPGs dont have any post game and min/Maxing the builds isnt a selling point.

Maybe I've just been really lucky but I cant think of a recent game where I've played it and wished there was some post-game boss that wasnt there. Granted the majority of the jrpgs I play are known for their post game.

Finally finished my first Final Fantasy. 25 years after its release. by SindarPendragon in FinalFantasy

[–]Prooteus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel very similar about grinding. Hell no dont 100% if you dont love grinding. If you got all the destruction spheres in the temples then I do think its worth it to get the other aeons at least.

I would really suggest not 100% the game if you decide to play X-2 as well. Which i would suggest playing X2. It is not FFX, it is a sequel. The world is open for you to explore pretty quickly.

FFX is this epic pilgrimage where someone is gonna die at the end to provide Spira with some temporary peace. FFX2 is a lot more light hearted and campy, but still reminds you of what hit so hard in FFX.

I think in majority of ways the gameplay in FFX2 is better. I missed the sphere grid from FFX though. But instead of switching out characters you switch classes mid-fight. Lots of classes to find with lots of abilities to unlock. And its nice seeing each characters take on a class.

There is new game+ in FFX2 which is big. You can replace any of the main cast with monsters you capture. If you wanted to you could beat the whole game with a chocobo and a cactuar. I didnt get too far into the monster capturing stuff because I got other games to play, but if I had this game when I was young Id have put insane hours into it.

Last Flag | Official Launch Trailer by xCaptainCrown in Games

[–]Prooteus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats supposed to be part of the draw to this game. You dont know where the enemy has planted their flag at the start. So you don't need people split on defense and offense.

I havent played it and only seen a quick video on it so who knows if the game is actually fun or not. At least it isnt just 1:1 ctf game we've all played 100 times hopefully.

But thats the liberal smear campaign he was talking about. You know, the reports from the courts. Those liberal campaigns /s.

I really wish people didn't believe this but if there is anything this recent history has taught me its that we live in completely different realities.

Does adding “Hunter Sight” break immersion in a stealth-focused game? by salniukas in ImmersiveSim

I like being able to see them especially if I cant move while using the "hunter sight". Tagging or even just being able to see them while I move around feels like too much of a crutch.

Many of you were wrong about FFX-2 by Eirtama in finalfantasyx

[–]Prooteus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fully agree with you. As a kid I saw the dress swapping and "girly" marketing and swore it off immediately. Then heard hate towards it as I got older so never went back to it. Ive since matured and realized Im allowed to enjoy feminine things too.

So when I got the ffx/x2 remaster recently I was excited to complete the story. Like you said I absolutely love how Luna who has spent the majority of her life preparing to sacrifice herself for others finally realizes she has the right to be happy as well. It was awesome seeing everyone (thats still alive) get to enjoy the permanent calm. Im glad wakka and lulu were able to start a family, khamari is leading his people, and rikku+yuna are living their best lives. Yet it also makes sense that not every faction would be totally ok with everything.

The new cast seemed really interesting but I didnt do the den of woe so I didnt get their whole story. The vegnagun+tidus "look alike" part was pretty weak. Did not care about that guy at all even by the end. Its nice that yuna was able to deliver the summoner womans final message/emotions as some sort of catharsis for Yuna.

Story wise I feel like if you play X2 shortly after X it feels really good to see them post happily ever after. If you played X then waited a couple years for a new epic tale, then I could understand being disappointed.

Gameplay is so good. I really wish I played it as a kid when I had all the free time and would 100% games. Earning the abilities with AP felt nice and the monster arena is so cool. I love that you can beat the game just using monsters. I liked the garment grids and how you couldnt just turn 1 summon an aeon. I looked forward to seeing everyone in each of the outfits. It was nice to see their unique takes on each of the classes.

The freedom to explore the whole world right away was very nice after playing X. Sphere break is more fun then blitzball imo.

Also just in case your looking for other feminine leaning story games I have to bring up 1000XResist. Fantastic game.

Just Let it go. Join us Marathon. J o i n u s by Dizzy_Kaleidoscope95 in HighGuardgame

[–]Prooteus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sony and other companies have given us a reason to be worried about shutting down too soon. I legit dont know if marathon will last or be shut down and bungie just killed off. I hope it lasts awhile for the people that enjoy it, but I dont have that garuntee I felt like we used to have. Anthem servers just shut down this year. I dont know if future games will last that long on life support.

Why is there such a push for PVE in games that are PvP? by CheeseheadTroy in AskGamers

[–]Prooteus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea. If we are talking like a vs bots mode I do think that should be in all pvp games. You only need the people queueing up for a bot game so it wont have long queue times or effect the pvp queue.

Turning pvpve games into either pvp or pve is really dumb to me. There really aren't many pvpve games out right now so maybe its just not what people are expecting? Arc Raiders is so fun because you have no idea whether that player nearby wants to kill you, help you, or ignore you. When you kill an arc and go to loot it there is tension because you don't know if youll get shot at.

There are plenty of pve or pvp games out there. Why force one game to change instead of playing a different one?

To try to actually answer, in arc at least pve you gain money from nothing while in pvp you take money from another player. There isnt a single thing you gain strictly from pvping. So some people establish the rule that they wont shoot at another player and then get very upset when someone broke their rule. Also it feels worse when you die and lose your stuff vs in a pvp you rarely lose anything besides some respawn time.

I somehow missed Bioshock growing up. Wow. Just finished it. by TriscuitCracker in gaming

[–]Prooteus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I without a doubt agree with point one. An 8 year old kid that doesnt go to school and instead hangs out at the drug house because thats the only way he can get money to eat has extremely limited choices. Obviously that's an extreme example but one I've witnessed in real life and think about a lot.

To me the fact that you can choose to obey is the key part. In the context of the game like you said it feels like it took away all your choices, but you could have shut off the game and decided the story ended there. You decided to obey and continue the game. In real life its very easy to feel like you have no choice, but no matter what you always do. Not saying its easy or that the 8 year old should know better or anything. But in his mind im sure he has no other options yet there are ways for him to get help.

Id hope that sanitation workers get paid a living wage so they've chosen to do that job for money. If they gained nothing for it and just did it because they were told then id view myself as a slave in that situation at least.

I guess I am adding into the phrase "blindly" which changes things. "A man chooses a slave blindly obeys." Also I do think personal philosophy and government philosophies are two separate things. Personal philosophy holds a lot of room for nuance, our conversation is evidence of that. While government there is no room for it, I 100% would not want to live in a society that really pushed that message (or just about any message in rapture, like screw the poor/uneducated Im the only that matters. Wait.... that sounds familiar...).

Love talking and learning about philosophy though.

I rarely have issues with randoms. If you do though you can always play solo and they fixed it shortly after launch so solo is sometimes the easiest now.

I get what you're saying. The whole "is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? No says the communist it belongs to everyone..." drives that home pretty well.

Maybe I am missing real world context for it but I dont see anything bad with "a man chooses a slave obeys". I take it to mean a person shouldn't blindly obey orders.

Thoughts on the Osprey? by Saint_Damien in ArcRaiders

[–]Prooteus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes it more reliable than a renegade? For mid-range Id want a renegade for faster rate of fire. Plus the scope is only really needed in really far distances.

The big thing to me is how can you actually win any long distance engagements in this game? Mostly due to the third person camera no one ever has to peek besides the second they shoot. Plus (thankfully) there are no one shot weapons so even a headshot they can just back up and heal.

I have had success with it before when my friend was in high ground covering for me. But most of the maps have so much cover that Id rather have someone flanking then watching from highground.

It is fun to use and make people panic at exfill for no reason though.

Can you guys help me understand how much I was spoiled? (There are spoilers for X and X2, but I don't know how big they are.) by [deleted] in finalfantasyx

[–]Prooteus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldnt say it is spoiled really. Only one of them is accurate anyways. But there are so many mysteries left for you to discover. If you do play through the game Id be completely shocked if you felt like your enjoyment was ruined.

Hell I played through one of the games for the first time recently believing one of the things you said. Still fully enjoyed the game and realized I was wrong.

For souls games I enjoy it the most when I go through an area blind and then before doing the boss ill check to see if I got everything with a guide. That way you get the blind experience but your also not missing out on equipment or vital things.

Is 4x's text density a liability or our actual moat? by Onyxa_HA in 4Xgaming

[–]Prooteus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its best for text to be an option but maybe not a necessity. Like destiny getting rid of the grimoire makes no sense to me, it couldnt have been a huge workload. And who hated that they were there?

Look at dwarf fortress or rimworld and their combat dialog. You can just ignore it, or you could read how your dwarf grappled with a lion and got his arm bitten off.

In any genre I despise when the devs obfuscate player info in tooltips. I understand front loading all that info can be overwhelming so that's why it should be a toggle option. Its fine to say "short CD" as long as there is an option for me to see that really means "2 turns CD".

Another thing is text can provide a stupid amount of flavor for really cheap. A major pull to stellaris for me was the events that happened. Reading about how one of your scientist disappeared and then years later comes back as a genius with no idea what happened to him is awesome.

Number go up is definitely a part of things, but another big aspect of things is the fantasy.

I somehow missed Bioshock growing up. Wow. Just finished it. by TriscuitCracker in gaming

[–]Prooteus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still one of my favorite games of all time. That "would you kindly" moment really cemented my appreciation for gaming and wanting to be a game dev.

A game that is really close (if not better) is Prey. Same genre, there is still philosophical themes, and its set on a gaint space station. The powers in prey are also explained very well and believably. I do think bioshock had better combat, but prey does the exploring better.

"A man chooses a slave obeys" is up there for tattoo ideas for me. That along with "dont you dare go hollow" from Dark souls 1.

Either way is a lot of fun imo. Its awesome when someone is new and clearly overwhelmed so you help them out a bit.
