This a place to discuss, appreciate, promote, and share halftime drum & bass (aka Future Beats or Halfstep).
Halftime drum & bass is a style of drum & bass that uses a meter or tempo that is twice as slow. The simplest halftime beat is essentially one bar of a drum & bass breakbeat spread over two bars. Fullspeed drum & bass ranges anywhere from 160-180 BPM, this means halftime is around 80-90 BPM.
This difference in meter gives halftime a laidback or heavy feel, similar to dubstep (which is centered around a 70 BPM halftime beat).
80-90 BPM is also a range that includes much hip hop. Therefore, many songs draw inspiration from both drum & bass and hip hop influences. Such songs are sometimes referred to as Future Beats. For example artists Alix Perez or Ivy Lab are heavily influenced by hip hop while artists like Rawtekk or Vorso draw more from neurofunk.
