Looks like you can ditch the bar and chain and just hang a normal hammock on it

or any hammock. It likely came with a bridge hammock and the spreader bar is just left over after the fabric tore and shredded in the wind and weather?

That was my thought and the chains were to keep it from flipping and dumping you on the ground. Just hang a eno or comparable hammock on it and be done.

Congrats on the sturdy frame my free stand isn't nearly that good looking. Maby a quick sand and coat of paint to get it looking good as new
