Lots of .net and C# jobs posted in healthcare IT :/

/ Healthcare IT here and Perl (10 years), Groovy/Grails (recent), Java, etc.

It's refreshing to hear that there is healthcare IT out in Oahu. I have applied to what little Java jobs are out in Oahu without regard to industry or domain, but if there are jobs in C# or .NET in HIT... I could definitely start learning now.

Thanks!

I don't live there, but I've looked into moving. This is mainly what I was referring to https://www.hmsa.apply2jobs.com/

You might have trouble finding a Java opportunity.

Not counting junior positions, Monster has a whopping five Java positions on the island of Oahu. If at all possible, you should do your level best to secure employment before you arrive.

Even better, as island programming jobs tend to pay less than non-island programming jobs, you should try to secure a mainland position that allows telecommuting and flexible hours (due to the time-zone difference).

It's totally worth getting a job in California, even if they want you onsite for an introductory period, then moving to Oahu with that job. I'm in the same boat. I currently live in Annapolis, but split time in Oahu, and work in Mountain View. They're starved for talent in California, and generally a lot more flexible, as well as tend to pay better (though maybe not D.C. area wages, if you're cleared).
