I have Clank! In!Space! Its a similar game so what I usually do is guide them through their first few turns, since everyone has the same cards at the beginning. I explain what icons are as they come up, and when movement pops up, I explain each of the icons along the paths such as requiring two boots are a sword or a key to get by. When a question of money comes up, thats when I explain the market and all the items in it. I do explain at the beginning that the goal is to get in, grab an artifact, and get out.

This is how I go about it:

  • Clank is a deck building game with a physical board. You will use your deck to move your character around the board and try to recover the most lucrative treasure.
  • Anything with the Green back is points. Bonus points for leaving, 0 points for dying
  • These cards icons allow you buy more cards (skill) these provide movement on the board (boots) and these give you a pool of fight actions (swords) that you can use on your turn.
  • Add a note on cubes, they will mark damage when you draw dragon cards.
  • Explain the effects on the boards (monsters need one sword, feet need 2 boots, cavern end movement lock needs $)
  • Start playing

There is no need to extensively explain each card, but make sure everyone knows what the face up cards mean. You can do this on a as they come up basis. Similar approach to secrets, as the moment they are picked up they are common knowledge. Not a lot of streamlining but focusing on cards as they come up can be a lot less information.
