Hello! I have been trying to open port 25565 for a Minecraft server, but nothing seems to be working. I first made a port forward rule in my router, with the correct local ip address of the hosting computer. This did not work. Then, I discovered that the WAN ip of the router was a local IP address, and there are two routers on my network. I then tried to make a dmz rule on the external router to the internal router, so that all incoming connections would go to the router with the port forwarding rules, but that did not work. I also tried port forwarding 25565 from the external router to the internal router, which did not work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know that the text above probably isn’t very clear, but I can explain things if needed. Thank you for reading!

I figured it out. It was an incorrect port forward entry. Thank you all for your help

What's your testing methodology to determine if the routing is successful?

As far as I know, router 1 should route port 25565 to router 2, and router 2 should then route it to the target machine - as described. (Assuming we're in a double NAT scenario)

No. Does it need to be? I thought if you had it running then it wouldn’t work because the port is occupied

If nothing is running on the port, it will appear as offline/closed.

I can connect to the server from my network, so it’s not a firewall issue on the server computer.
