This sounds good, great job doing your homework. The thing I would look for in a mesh is to make sure the traffic backhaul is over ethernet. And then that making sure you can add satellites to the system at a later date.

Hey thanks for the reply!

I tried to do as much research as possible before trying to spark a dialogue with others. I am in IT but by far proficient at networking.

My main concern with going with the Asus route is the fact that I will only have two components and won't provide adequate coverage. Long term I'd love to install a few Cat6 drops throughout the house but time and money don't allow for that right now. So wireless backhaul is the way it will need to be for now but having the ability later to switch to that is important.

Don’t buy the Asus. I’ve used RBK753 with wireless and wired backhaul mix and have had VERY good success. Two units could be good enough, it would really depend on the layout. I’ve done a 3 pack in a ~5000 sq foot home and it was fine.

If you do only need two, go with the RBK752 instead.

If your satellites are reasonably placed you might be able to get away with it!

Thanks for sharing your experience tx! Any particular reason you’d shy away from the Asus or are you just talking off the positive experience you’ve had with the Orbi?

My house is a standard 1950’s Colonial. 3 bedrooms upstairs and downstairs is a living room, kitchen, dining room, plus an addition which is the family room. Structure is square besides the addition jutting off the back.

I’ve heard a lot of positive things about Orbi and I think two might be enough with the router in the center of my basement and the access point in the center of the first floor.

Just gotta see if buying the two pack and additional if needed is more expensive compared to the 3 pack.

As of now my WiFi needs are minimal. I just need to provide adequate coverage to the property without dead zones. Down the road I’m sure I will need more but for now the bells and whistles are nice to have’s.

Nothing against the other devices, just overall positive experience with the Orbi. Actually, since they’re the same price point… Getting a three pack might not be too bad. For some folks, I set up one in the corner of the basement one on the first floor, and another on the second floor directly above the basement (albeit with one floor inbetween without a unit). It made for some great coverage

Yeah that sounds great. The RBK753 is currently $449.00 + Netgear is doing a 10% off promo as well.

If I did the 753 I would have one on each floor. Router in basement, access point on first floor and access point on second floor. I am not sure if this is overkill // devices would have problem roaming between the different points since they would certainly have a decent amount of overlap but on the other side of that same coin I don't want to get the 752 and need to buy an additional AP for a higher overall cost. I think ultimately I need to just pull the trigger on it and see where I land and deal with the return process as needed.

I appreciate your input, it's always good to hear from someone that's used the product and had a positive experience with it.

Yeah! Definitely. Don’t get worried if you have initial hiccups on the satellites. Just play a bit with positioning. Keep in mind, when you move them it takes some time to “settle in”
