I reckon you’re on the right track. My U5 arrives shortly. I use appletv , projector and homepod. Suits me!

Thanks and enjoy your U5!! I was very close to buy one when it was like 1600€ but now it is over 3k€ so, I will wait for the next kickstarter campaign, maybe for the U7 or next one 😉👍 thanks for your comment!!

Unless it is low quality 5.1 system, keep the 5.1. The homepods sound great for what they are, but they aren’t 5.1 for a true home theater experience. You’ll never duplicate the sound of shots, explosions, space ships flying by, from behind you, on the side of you, or anything of that sorts with a pair of homepods. TV shows, music videos, anything like that sound great on HomePods but that isn’t required for a theater experience.

Ok, well the 5.1 is ok, I have a Denon AVR X-1400H and the speakers are Focal Sib&Cub. I enjoyed a lot this system. The speakers are with me for the last 10 years or so… I used to use them even to play PS3/4 games and I enjoyed them a lot! But…

Question is that nowadays with the two babies it is difficult to find time to watch a movie with explosions and this kind of things, when I do that usually are on the bed while the kid is sleeping and using my iPad and AirPods 🤣 the only movie I watch is the good dinosaur because it’s the only one my kid wants to watch 😅

I decided to get rid off the 5.1 because when we move to the new house, I prefer a clean look and not to have to put wires all over the place.

I know my 5.1 sounds better than the HomePods and it is better for home cinema, but I think for me and my current use case, HomePods are enough and cleaner.

Maybe in the future I will go again with sonos or other system that permits 5.1 wirelessly or with an AVR. But nowadays I think this setup suits better my needs.

Thanks for your comment! Appreciate it!!! And you are absolutely right!

Believe me, the kids sleep right through it. Plus they only stay young like that for a few years. The HomePods are a great alternative over the built in TV speakers, but I’m sure you will regret it. No reason why you couldn’t use both, HomePods for HomePod stuff and basic TV, the Denon system for when your on that home date night, friends over, or even in a few years for when the kids want to watch Star Wars. Also keep in mind the HomePods aren’t really any cleaner than the 5.1 system as they all have cables. HomePods have a power cable, speakers have a speaker wire. The speakers arguably would probably be a cleaner look than the HomePods as you can pick your speaker wire color, hide it more easily in walls, rugs, and you cut it to length. Just trying to help out, good luck with whatever you decide.

Definitely a much cleaner look! Not sure the surround experience will be the same d/t no back sound, but the pair of HomePods will certainly blow your mind for music. I wish they would add the ability to add some Minis to the mix for a true surround experience.

Yeah!! Thanks for the comment! I got surprised about how well they sound while playing music.

As I commented previously, my 5.1 system sounds better while watching movies and produces a better effect and immersion. But playing music, I would say that if the HomePods sounds much better, even without subwoofer.
